The Keiser Athletic Department announced this week's Seahawks HSS Athletes of the Week on Monday. This week's winners, junior Martin Carrizo and junior Elyse Lavender were recognized for their play during the week of February 5.

Martin Carrizo, Jr., Buenos Aires, Argentina

• Carrizo showed his experience in his first tournament with the team clinching the final two matches at the ITA NAIA Indoor Team Championships. 
• After the team climbed back to 3-3 from down 0-3, Carrizo calmly broke down his opponent shot after shot to help the Seahawks break a 173-game winning streak of Georgia Gwinnett and claim the inaugural 2023 Indoor Team Title.
• Finished the week with a 4-0 singles record, including a perfect 3-0 mark in the ITA NAIA Team Indoor National Championship.
• Clinched the ITA NAIA Team Indoor National Championship with a 6-4, 3-6,6-1 win over GGC's Leo Sprovieri (No. 18).

Elyse Lavender, Jr., Boynton Beach, Fla.

• Clinching a crucial doubles point against Georgia Gwinnett with teammate Vanja Vidanovic, the Seahawks took the 1-0 lead going into singles.
• Battling an illness on court one, Lavender clinched the match over the No. 4 player in the country to snap a 65-match winning streak by the No. 1 Grizzlies.
• Her play helped Keiser improved to 5-0 on the young season.
• She knocked off the No. 4- and No. 9-ranked players in the Indoor National Championship.
• On the year, Lavender is 3-1 in singles action and 4-1 in doubles play.

Both Carrizo and Lavender will now be in the running for the Keiser Athlete of the Month (February) awarded in early March which will be featured on ESPN West Palm (106.3 FM).
