The Keiser Athletic Department announced the Seahawks HSS Athletes of the Month for the month of October on Wednesday. This month's winners, senior defender
Maja Henriksson and senior running back
Marques Burgess, have been recognized for their play during the past month.
The winners of the Seahawks HHS Athletes of the Month will be featured on ESPN West Palm (106.3 FM).
Maja Henriksson, Jr., D, Gothenburg, Sweden
- Helped guide the Seahawks to an 8-0-0 record in the month and the SUN Regular Season title.
- A two-time Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week in October.
- She finished the month with four goals, and seven assists for 15 points.
- Recorded game-winning goals at both Thomas and No. 10 Southeastern.
- Anchored a defense that produced six shutouts during the month.
- Registered four assists in Keiser's 11-0 win over Florida Memorial (10/13).
- Scored both goals in a 2-0 shutout of No. 10 Southeastern (10/22).
- Is third on the team in total points (26) with six goals and a team-high 14 assists this season.
Marques Burgess, Sr., RB, Fort Pierce, Florida
- Named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week (10/31).
- Won Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.
- During the month of October, Burgess rushed for 783 yards and eight touchdowns.
- His play has helped Keiser rattle off five straight win and remain unbeaten in NAIA play.
- Posted four 100-yard games during the month.
- Closed out the month with a career-high 234 yards on 36 carries and two touchdowns versus Ave Maria (10/29).
- With that performance, Burgess (4,759 yards) surpassed Kevin Smith (UCF - 4,679) for the most career rushing yards by a running back from a collegiate team from the state of Florida.
- Currently fourth in the nation in rushing, Burgess has rushed for over 1,000 yards in two straight seasons (1,104).
- The native of Fort Pierce, Florida, has tallied 11 rushing touchdowns this season (No. 10 in the nation).
