The second-ranked Keiser women's soccer team began the 2025 campaign on a strong note, defeating Texas A&M–Texarkana, 5-1, on Saturday morning at home. The Eagles struck first in the 17th minute when Brooklyn Lattier put TAMUT on the board. The Seahawks quickly responded with
Blanca Bächi scoring an equalizer in the 24th minute. Keiser grabbed the lead just before halftime when
Ruby Vernon scored in the 44th minute. Keiser controlled the second half, adding three goals to put the match out of reach. Bächi would score her second of the day before
Vera Croné capped the scoring in the 78th minute.
Keiser will now turn their attention to Division II Barry University on Wednesday, August 27. Kickoff from Arrigo-Vecellio Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 11:00 a.m.
- TAMUT was on the front foot early before a shot from Desiree Narvaez ricocheted down off the crossbar before bouncing away in the third minute
- Keiser's first two attempts on goal would come from Luisa Fontes with both chances getting saved
- In the 17th minute, Narvaez sent a cross beyond a clash of two players where Brooklyn Lattier got on the end of it and ripped a shot over the keeper to give the Eagles the lead
- The Seahawks would respond six minutes later when Blanca Bächi bested her defender and slotted the first goal of her career into the net to tie the game
- The momentum continued to shift towards KU as three straight yellow cards went against the Eagles
- Just before the half, Emilia Nilsson crossed the ball into the middle to find Ruby Vernon who chipped the keeper and give Keiser a 2-1 advantage going into the break
- The Seahawks' attack continued into the second with a handball in the box conceding a penalty to KU
- Maria Vilhena would step up to the spot but be denied by Layla Anaya in the 49th minute
- The Keiser offense continued to batter the back line of the Eagles before Vernon broke through again in the 72nd minute. Her initial chance would be saved, but it would bounce off a defender and into the net for an own goal
- After a quick hydration break, Lauren Riley raced down the sideline before crossing to Bächi who stopped on a dime to let her defender pass before beating the keeper to make it 4-1
- In the 78th minute, Fontes would collect the ball outside the box and cross a looping ball to the back post where Vera Croné directed it in
- Keiser opens their season in the win column for the 16th time in program history
- The win also marks the first win for Head Coach Alex Adams
- 10 players made their debut on Saturday including five opening day starters
- It marked the second consecutive season with those exact numbers of newcomers and new starters
- Bächi and Vernon tallied their first collegiate goals of their careers in the win
- For Croné, it was the second goal of her career after tallying one last season against New College of Florida
- Fontes, Letelier, Nilsson, Karine Ørud, and Riley all had one assist in the contest
- Mio Tanaka got the start in goal for the Seahawks, making one save and earning the win in her debut
- Madison Priebe played the final 12 minutes in relief
- The Seahawks dominated statistically, outshooting TAMUT 26-4 (11-2 on goal)
