The Fred Mitchell Award announced its non-FBS place-kickers for excellence through the end of October 2024, in alphabetical order on Tuesday, October 29. The Fred Mitchell Award is presented annually to the nation's top place-kicker in FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA for excellence on the football field and in the community.
Keiser's
Nico Cavanillas has been named to that list which is comprised of 41 place-kickers from the NCAA Football Championship Series (11), NCAA Division II (11), NCAA Division III (14), NAIA (3), and NJCAA (2).
The award will presented at the annual National Football Foundation Chicago Metro Chapter Awards Ceremony in February. A college tuition scholarship can be presented to the college of the Award recipient. Scholarship funds are received from corporate and individual donations and nominal financial support provided by the Selection Committee.

Nico Cavanillas, Second Year, K, Redmond, Ore.
- Has converted 6-of-8 field goals this season (75.0 percent)
- Is a perfect 4-of-4 in field goals between 20-29 yards
- Converted a 21 extra-point attempts this season
- Leads the Sun Conference in field goals per game (1.2)
- Ranks No. 6 in the SUN in scoring, averaging 7.8 points per game and is No. 26 in the nation with 39 total points
- Tied his career high for field goals in a game (3) and is only the third kicker in program history to record three-or-more field goals in a game (at North Greenville)
- The native of Redmond, Oregon, hit fields of 32, 31, and 21 yards
- Hit the game-winning FG in overtime to lead Keiser to its first win over an NCAA Division II school (23-20 OT at North Greenville)
- Named the Sun Conference and NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week for his play in the Seahawk's season-opening win at North Greenville
- Also handled kickoff duties at Newberry College, producing seven kicks for 395 yards with one touchback
The Seahawks will travel to Babson Park, Florida, to face the Webber Int'l Warriors on Saturday, November 2. Game time for 1:30 PM.
