The Keiser wrestling team unveiled its 2022-23 schedule on Wednesday. The Seahawks are traveling to four open tournaments and competing in 13 duals in the 2022-23 season.
In the 2021-22 season, the Seahawks finished the regular season with a 2-9 record in the regular season with both wins coming at home. This season Keiser will host three duals on their home mat including a tri-meet with St. Andrews and St. Thomas to open the regular season.
Keiser will begin their season at home with a tri-meet against St. Andrews and St. Thomas on October 27. The Seahawks will follow with their first open tournament of the season as they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky for the Patriot Open. KU will travel to the Reinhardt Duals on November 12 for duals with Reinhardt, Campbellsville, and Cumberland(Tenn.). The final home dual of the year and the senior day will be held on December 3 when Montreat makes the trip to West Palm Beach. A month will go by before the Seahawks travel to Montreat for duals with the Cavaliers, St. Andrews, and West Virginia Tech on January 7. The following weekend will be the Florida duals hosted by Southeastern as the Seahawks will face the Fire and St. Thomas in Lakeland. The final dual of the regular season will take place in Miami Gardens, but it will be the Life Running Eagles across the mat before the Seahawks travel to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships on February 18.
Keiser returns a lot of their firepower from last season as All-AAC honorees
Earnest Johnson and
Patrick Gould look to improve on their 2021-22 seasons. Last season, Gould joined the Seahawks for the spring half of the season and made an immediate impact. In just his second dual, he pinned the No. 13 ranked 149-pound wrestler from Montreat, sparking a run to win the Mid-South Conference Championship at 141 pounds. Gould would go on to win one of the first wins at the NAIA National Tournament in program history. As for Johnson, the heavyweight will look to improve on a season that saw him record an 11-0 record in duals. He too advanced to the NAIA where he picked up two wins for the Seahawks.
When asked about the upcoming season, Head Coach
Nick Soto had this to say, "The goal with our schedule is always the same: Prepare our guys for the national tournament. This year, we've added events like the Reinhardt Duals and Missouri Valley Invite to help us get ready. We're also excited to see some new teams in the AAC Conference. We've had a good preseason and we are ready to kick this year off on Oct. 27!"
