Keiser volleyball needed all five sets to get past Sun Conference opponent Florida National on Friday night at home in West Palm Beach, Fla., winning 3-2 (25-18, 25-10, 24-26, 23-25, 15-5).
The Seahawks jumped out early, cruising through the first two sets before Florida National rallied to steal sets three and four and force a decider. Keiser regrouped and pulled away in the fifth, closing out the match on a 15-5 run to seal the win.
Cece Worsham put together the standout performance of the night, leading all players with 17.0 points on a match-high 17 kills against just three errors on 37 swings (.378), while also pacing Keiser's defense with 19 digs. Addison Chapman was right behind her with 15.5 points, hitting .250 with 10 kills and a team-high nine block assists to go with a solo block. Hannah Mary Herrick was the most efficient hitter on the floor, going 14-for-24 with just two errors (.500) for 15.0 points, and Makenzi Bennett rounded out the front-line production with 11 kills, 14 digs, three service errors offset by two aces, and 13.5 points.
Amelia Langelier chipped in nine kills on .400 hitting with two block assists for 10.0 points, and Emma Friese added six kills and two block assists for 7.0 points in three sets of work. Marina Maia was efficient in a reserve role, going 3-for-7 with no errors (.429) for 4.0 points.
Setters Mallory Dills and Amie Molina combined for 63 assists to run the Keiser offense — Dills posting 33 assists, seven digs and a service ace, while Molina added 30 assists, eight digs and two service errors. Reese Jones was steady in the back row with 13 digs.
As a team, Keiser hit .327 (75 kills, 20 errors on 168 attempts) and won the kill battle 75-47 over Florida National, which hit just .119 as a team (47 kills, 28 errors on 159 attempts). Sara Lizano Joya led the Owls' offense with 16 kills and 17.0 points, matching Worsham for the match high in scoring, while Carolina Goncalves added 11 kills and Grace Leffler chipped in eight.
With the win, Keiser improves to 7-7 on the season, while Florida National falls to 3-8.
