WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A 13-run explosion over three middle innings proved insurmountable Thursday afternoon, as (rv) Keiser Baseball dropped a Sun Conference decision to No. 25 St. Thomas at Silvester Jr. Field, falling on the day by a final of 13-1 in seven innings.

Starter Carson Hawkes held the Bobcats scoreless through the first three frames, but the wheels came off in a hurry. St. Thomas broke through for three in the fourth, then sent six more across in a chaotic fifth, which ended Hawkes' run. Two wild pitches and a pair of hit batsmen extended the inning before Hawkes was lifted. Reliever Sean D'Agostini surrendered three hits, two wild pitches, and a walk while allowing three more runs in the sixth before Dallin Weatherly came on and gave up one additional run to close out the frame. Hawkes was charged with the loss, moving to 7-3 this season. By the time the dust settled, the Bobcats had piled up 17 hits on the afternoon against a trio of Seahawk arms.

Keiser's lone run came in the sixth, when Chris Sorge singled to right-center to score Tad Brooks, who had reached on a St. Thomas error and moved up on a wild pitch. Maddox Shaver collected a hit and a hit-by-pitch in his two plate appearances, and Karson Nadal added a single in a pinch-hitting role. But the offense could never sustain a threat against St. Thomas lefty Ismael Cordoba, who struck out nine Seahawks over six innings and kept Keiser off-balance.

The Seahawks managed just four hits, left seven on base, and were retired on strikes nine times on the afternoon.
