WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 22 Baseball defeated Ave Maria 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Silvester Jr. Field, improving to 16-5 on the season behind a three-pitcher combination and a big day from catcher Alex Getz.

Ave Maria struck first, drawing first blood in the opening inning. Michael Kelly drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on an RBI single by Ri'Shon Pearl, giving the Gyrenes a 1-0 advantage after one.

Keiser responded in a big way in the third inning, plating two runs to take the lead for good. With Maddox Shaver and Jeremy Garcia already on base, a wild pitch moved Shaver to third and Garcia to second before Jake Olsen delivered the go-ahead two-run single to left field — advancing to second on the throw — to put the Seahawks ahead 2-1.

The Seahawks kept the pressure on in the fourth, as Tad Brooks singled and Elian Collado walked before a balk moved both runners to second and third, setting the table for Getz's two-run single up the middle to extend the advantage to 4-1.

Getz then put the game away in the seventh with a leadoff solo shot to left field to make it 5-1, capping a dominant afternoon at the plate. The catcher finished 2-for-2 with a walk, a home run and three RBI to pace the Seahawks.

Starter Kyle Keyes was solid through 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while keeping the Gyrenes in check through the early going. Bastyan Hernandez took over and was dominant in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with just one hit and two strikeouts to earn the victory. Allen Leitner closed things out with 2.0 innings, allowing one earned run while striking out three to secure the win.

Olsen finished 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Brooks went 1-for-4 and scored a run, and Shaver added a hit and a run scored.
