VIERA, Fla. – Keiser Baseball swept a doubleheader with Mount Marty on Friday at USSSA Space Coast Stadium, taking game one 4-1 before cruising to a 14-1 victory in the nightcap. With the sweep, the Seahawks have now won four consecutive games and improved to 15-5 on the season.

The Seahawks scored all four of their runs in the second inning of the opener, turning a four-hit rally into a lead they would not relinquish. Alex Getz opened the frame with a single and eventually scored when Elian Collado grounded out for the first run. Ty Martinez then delivered the big blow, ripping a two-run triple to center that scored Maddox Shaver and Jeremy Garcia to make it 3-0. Jake Olsen followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Martinez and cap the four-run inning.

Mount Marty's only run came in the bottom of the first, when Jalen Owens scored on a Daniel Vonnegut sacrifice fly off starter Jake Molloy. That would be all the offense the Lancers could muster, as Carson Hawkes shut the door from there. Hawkes — who leads the nation with six wins this season — entered in the third inning and was dominant, tossing five scoreless frames while allowing just four hits, striking out three, and picking off two baserunners to close out the 4-1 victory. Martinez led the Keiser offense going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI, while Getz, Garcia, and Shaver each contributed hits in the decisive second inning.

Keiser wasted no time in the game two, plating three runs in the first inning against Mount Marty starter Palmer Jacobs. Ty Martinez drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored on an Avery Doezie sacrifice fly to open the scoring. After Tad Brooks and Andres Balart were both hit by pitches, the two executed a double steal, with Brooks scoring on a catcher's error to make it 2-0. Elian Collado then singled home Balart for a 3-0 Keiser advantage.

The Seahawks added two more in the third inning. Doezie doubled and moved to third on a Brooks single before Balart's RBI single scored Doezie. Brooks then came home when Balart was caught stealing, pushing the lead to 5-0. The fourth inning was the backbreaker. With Karson Nadal and Maddox Shaver both aboard after being hit by pitches, Jeremy Garcia singled to load the bases. Jake Olsen drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Nadal, Doezie lined out to score Shaver, and Tad Brooks delivered a two-run double to put Keiser ahead 9-0.

Two more scored in the fifth when Jeremy Garcia singled and Ty Martinez crushed a two-run home run, his fourth of the season. The Seahawks added three in the sixth, capped by Elian Collado's two-run double to center field that scored Brooks and Doezie. Tad Brooks was the offensive star of game two, going 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Collado finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Doezie drove in two despite recording just one hit on the day. Austin Taylor was outstanding on the mound, going six innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out four to improve to 3-1 on the season. Sebastien Germano closed things out with a perfect seventh, striking out two.

Game Notes

  • Keiser moves to 15-5 after today's sweep as the Seahawks are on a four-game win streak
  • Carson Hawkes improved to 6-0 on the season with five shutout innings of relief in game one, extending his nation-leading win total. He has yet to take a loss on the year
  • Ty Martinez was productive in both games, finishing the day with a triple and home run among his three hits. He drove in four runs on the afternoon and now has three home runs on the season
  • Tad Brooks went a perfect 3-for-3 in game two with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. He also added a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base, reaching base every time he came to the plate
  • Elian Collado was the clutch hitter of the nightcap, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. His two-run double to center field in the sixth inning put the game firmly out of reach
  • Avery Doezie had one of the more unusual stat lines of the day in game two — just one official at-bat, but she scored twice, drove in two, doubled, drew a walk, added a sacrifice fly, and added a sacrifice. She reached base in all four plate appearances
  • Jeremy Garcia went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored in game two without recording a single RBI, setting the table all afternoon for the middle of the Keiser order
  • Austin Taylor was sharp in his game two start, allowing just one run over six innings on six hits while striking out four. He improved to 3-1 on the season
  • Sebastien Germano retired all three batters he faced in the seventh inning of game two, striking out two, to close out the 14-1 victory
  • Keiser's offense combined for 18 runs and 18 hits across the two games, with every starter reaching base at least once in the doubleheader
