NORTH PORT, Fla. – No. 22 Baseball split another doubleheader with New College of Florida on Saturday at CoolToday Park, winning the opener 7-2 before dropping game two 15-5 in eight innings. With the split, the Seahawks move to 24-9 on the season.

Game one belonged to Kyle Keyes and Tad Brooks in equal measure. Keyes was sharp from the beginning, striking out eight over seven innings while allowing just four hits and two runs to improve to 4-0 on the year, with Seth Broadwell closing it out for the save. New College grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a second-inning Andrew Merchant sacrifice fly, but Keiser answered with a pair in the fourth — Brooks reached on a single, a pitching error on a pickoff attempt sent him all the way to third, and Jaden Ross delivered a sacrifice fly to tie it before Maddox Shaver's RBI double gave the Seahawks the lead for good. Brooks broke it open in the fifth, following a Jeremy Garcia triple with a two-run homer to left to make it 4-1. New College got one back in the sixth when Brecken Fair tripled and scored on a Matthew Merk RBI groundout, but Brooks added another RBI single in the seventh and the Seahawks tacked on two more in the ninth on a pair of wild pitches to close out the 7-2 final. Brooks finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks, a home run, and three RBI, consistently coming through with two outs and runners on base.

Game two was a different story entirely. New College sent 15 runners across the plate against seven Keiser pitchers, scoring in seven of eight innings and never letting the Seahawks find any rhythm. Jack Sanchez lasted just 1.1 innings before being chased, and by the time Keiser started to scratch back — a pair of unearned runs in the fifth on errors, Avery Doezie's solo homer in the sixth, and Jake Olsen's two-run double in the seventh made it 14-5 — the deficit was past reachable.

Game Notes

  • Keiser moves to 24-9 after splitting today's doubleheader with New College
  • Kyle Keyes struck out eight in seven innings in game one, retiring the side in order three times and allowing just one walk all afternoon to improve to 4-0 on the season
  • Tad Brooks went a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks in game one, with all three of his RBI coming with two outs — including a two-run homer in the fifth that broke the game open
  • Keiser scored two runs in the ninth inning of game one without recording a single hit, as a pair of wild pitches from New College relievers handed the Seahawks their final two runs
  • In game one's fourth inning, a pitching error on a pickoff attempt by Dalton Hill sent Tad Brooks from first all the way to third, directly setting up the sacrifice fly that tied the game
  • Keiser used seven pitchers in game two, and every one of them allowed at least one baserunner, as New College scored in seven of the eight innings
  • Andres Balart drew three walks and added a sacrifice bunt in game two, scoring twice without recording a hit
  • Avery Doezie and Jake Olsen were responsible for three of Keiser's four RBI in game two — Doezie's solo homer in the sixth and Olsen's two-run double in the seventh accounting for most of the Seahawks' offense
