Seahawks Remain Undefeated After 29-4 Rout of Montreat on the Road

Score: No. 2 Keiser Seahawks 29, Montreat (NC) 4
Records: Keiser (6-0, 5-0), Montreat (3-7, 0-4)
Location: Pulliam Stadium – Black Mountain, N.C.

The Keiser Seahawks rolled to a dominant 29-4 victory over Montreat on Thursday afternoon at Pulliam Stadium in Black Mountain, N.C., improving to a perfect 6-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. Kegan Hufford, Braeden Niemy, and AJ Badik led a balanced offensive assault as the Seahawks showed no signs of slowing down.

Keiser wasted no time establishing control, exploding for nine first-quarter goals while holding Montreat to just two. Badik opened the scoring with an unassisted goal just 46 seconds in, and Ryan Rundle and Hufford each found the back of the net in quick succession. JP Prather added one off a Hufford assist, and Marek Albiero converted a Kyle Davis feed to push the lead to 6-0. Montreat showed brief signs of life — D'Andrae McKenzie converted off a Landon LaGro assist and Gavin Mottram answered another Keiser tally moments later to make it 7-2 - but Niemy and Rundle closed out the period with back-to-back goals to send the Seahawks into the second quarter up 9-2.

The second quarter was more of the same, as Keiser poured in ten unanswered goals to take a commanding 19-2 advantage into halftime. Hufford, Badik, and Rundle each struck again, while Cameron Romano, Matthew Essig, and Prather each chipped in as well. Albiero added his second of the game on an unassisted effort, and Niemy converted off a Rundle assist to keep the scoreboard moving. Montreat was held off the board entirely in the quarter, managing just five shots against Jakson Chadwick, who took over in net to begin the second period.

Keiser continued to pour it on in the third, outscoring Montreat 5-2. Ryan Stowell opened the quarter with an unassisted goal, followed quickly by Niemy off a Stowell feed. Montreat managed a pair of responses - Ethan Seamans scored unassisted, and Gavin Mottram converted a man-up opportunity off a LaGro assist after a Cayden Lachle slashing penalty - but the Seahawks answered both times. Hufford registered a pair of third-quarter goals, assisted by Stowell and Rundle respectively, and Albiero capped the period with his third of the afternoon off a Hufford assist to push the lead to 24-4.

With the outcome well in hand, Keiser closed out the game with five fourth-quarter goals. Niemy opened and closed the quarter with scores - the first off a Badik assist, the last off a Davis feed - while Albiero, Eric Smith, and Maximus Pareto each added tallies to set the final at 29-4. Pareto's goal, his first of the season, came off an Essig assist. Smith also notched the first goal of his career to cap off a full-roster effort for the Seahawks.

Goalkeeper Lucas Green was sharp in the first half, making four saves over his 30 minutes of action to earn the win. Jakson Chadwick handled the second half in net, stopping five shots of his own. On the other side, Montreat cycled through three goalkeepers - Jay Chance, Justin Holland, and Joshua Kalec - who combined for 19 saves against an overwhelming Keiser attack.

Keiser dominated virtually every statistical category, holding a 65-21 edge in shots, 48-12 in shots on goal, and an enormous 60-33 advantage in ground balls. Chris Rayburn and the Seahawks' faceoff unit were commanding, winning 27-of-37 draws on the day. Landon LaGro was the lone bright spot for Montreat, recording three assists to account for three of the Cavalier's four goals.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they travel to Williamsburg, Ky. to face the No. 8-ranked University of the Cumberlands. Draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
