The No. 2 Keiser Seahawks continued their dominant run, dispatching No. 8 University of the Cumberlands 20-8 on Saturday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex in Williamsburg, Ky., improving to a perfect 7-0 on the season and 6-0 in conference play. AJ Badik's five-goal performance headlined another balanced offensive effort as Keiser pulled away from a competitive first quarter to claim a convincing victory over a ranked opponent.
The opening period was the closest the Patriots would get. After Badik opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 13:01 mark, Cumberlands answered quickly - Nathan Cook knotting it at 1-1 before Jack Bichsel leveled it again at 2-2 following an Albiero go-ahead tally. The Seahawks then erupted for six unanswered goals to close the quarter, with Ryan Stowell, Badik, and JP Prather each finding the net. Dakota White and Nathan Foskey scored in the final minute to make it 8-4 after one, but Keiser's late-quarter surge had firmly established the tone.
The second quarter belonged entirely to the Seahawks. Stowell scored twice in the opening two minutes to push the lead to 10-4, and Kegan Hufford added a pair of goals - assisted by Stowell and Marek Albiero, respectively - to extend it further. Braeden Niemy capped the quarter off a Stowell feed to send Keiser into the half leading 13-5. Caden Abbott provided Cumberlands' lone second-quarter response, but the Seahawks held a stranglehold on the game.
Keiser kept its foot on the gas in the third. Badik extended the lead to 14-5 before Caden Abbott answered for the Patriots. The Seahawks then rode a man-up opportunity - Badik converting after a Ty Grooms illegal body check penalty - and Chris Rayburn added an unassisted goal moments later to push the advantage to 16-6 heading into the fourth.
With the outcome decided, Keiser closed efficiently in the final frame. Hufford opened the quarter off a Rayburn assist, and Marek Albiero and Kyle Davis added goals to make it 19-7. JP Prather capped the scoring for the Seahawks with 65 seconds left before Will Rogers added a late consolation tally for Cumberlands, setting the final at 20-8.
Lucas Green was steady in net for the full 60 minutes, making 12 saves and surrendering just eight goals to earn the win. Cumberlands cycled through two goalkeepers - Nathan Foskey and JD Cook - who combined for 17 saves against a relentless Keiser attack.
The Seahawks dominated the statistical categories once again, outshooting Cumberlands 56-36 and holding a 46-34 edge in ground balls. Chris Rayburn was solid in the faceoff circle, winning 15-of-31 draws despite a more competitive battle than the Seahawks have faced in recent weeks. Carter Barrett was active offensively for Cumberlands, recording the team's lone assist, while Nathan Cook led the Patriots with two goals.
The Seahawks return to action on Thursday, April 9th, when they host Tennessee Wesleyan Univesity at home. Draw is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
