AVE MARIA, Fla. – No. 22 Keiser Baseball fell 12-6 to Ave Maria on Thursday evening, moving to 19-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play as the Gyrenes built an insurmountable early lead.
Ave Maria scored first in the opening frame when Kyle Magdic and Michael Kelly came around to score after Jake LaVine reached on an error by the Seahawks, giving the Gyrenes an early 2-0 lead. Keiser responded in the second as Alex Getz launched a two-run home run to left center, scoring Cameron Hancock to knot the game at 2-2. The Gyrenes quickly answered, scoring four times in the bottom of the second — first on an error that brought home a run, then on a three-run blast to left center from Ri'Shon Pearl — to push the lead to 6-2.
Ave Maria extended their advantage to 7-2 with a solo home run from Joe Manesiotis in the third. Keiser trimmed the deficit in the fifth when a wild pitch brought home Jake Olsen to make it 7-3, but the Gyrenes brought in two more runs in the same inning — a Chris Myers RBI triple and another wild pitch — to push the lead to 9-3.
Ave Maria added three more in the eighth, with Michael Kelly scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jake LaVine before Michael Ciscar capped the inning with a two-run double to left center, making it 12-3 heading into the ninth.
The Seahawks refused to go quietly, rallying for three runs in the final frame. Jake Olsen launched a two-run home run to left field to score Ty Martinez, and Alex Getz drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Jeremy Garcia, but the Seahawks could not complete the comeback as the game ended 12-6.
Getz finished with a home run and three RBI to pace the Seahawks, while Olsen went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Avery Doezie added two hits in five at-bats, and Elian Collado went 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases. The Seahawks finished with nine hits but struck out 12 times and left 10 runners on base, with four errors proving costly throughout the evening.
Carson Hawkes started on the mound and worked four innings before giving way to Dallin Weatherly, Logan Butler and Jake Billings in relief as Keiser looks to bounce back tomorrow.

The Seahawks will continue their series with the Gyrenes starting at 3:00 PM tomorrow for a doubleheader.
