Records: Keiser (4-0), Columbia College (1-6).
Location: Multi Purpose Field - West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Keiser Seahawks made a statement in their home opener on Thursday afternoon, rolling to a dominant 26-4 victory over Columbia (SC) at the Multi Purpose Field in West Palm Beach to improve to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. A crowd of 287 fans turned out to welcome the Seahawks home, and the team did not disappoint.
Keiser wasted no time asserting control, exploding for seven goals in the opening quarter. AJ Badik got the party started with the game's first goal at 14:31, and Braeden Niemy added three of his game-high five tallies in the period alone. Ryan Stowell chipped in two assists and a goal of his own, while the Seahawks' offense kept the pressure relentless throughout the first 15 minutes. Columbia managed just one goal - a late strike from Noah Norwood off a Peyton Brand assist with 15 seconds remaining - as Keiser took a commanding 7-1 lead into the second quarter.
The second period was more of the same. Keiser erupted for nine goals, with Kyle Davis finding the net twice and AJ Badik adding two more of his own to bring his total to four on the day. JP Prather and Kegan Hufford also struck in the period, the latter finishing unassisted. Hufford and Davis were orchestrating the offense beautifully from behind the cage, combining for four of Keiser's seven assists in the quarter. Norwood again provided Columbia's lone bright spot, scoring his second goal of the game, but the Seahawks took a massive 16-2 advantage into the halftime break.
Keiser continued pouring it on in the third quarter, outscoring Columbia 8-1. Niemy continued his dominant performance, adding a fifth goal on the day, while Marek Albiero, Cole Nappi, Matthew Essig, Ryan Rundle, and Cameron Romano all found the back of the net. The one Columbia answer came from Peyton Brand on a man-up opportunity, taking advantage of a pair of simultaneous Keiser penalties to cut into the deficit momentarily. Keiser held a 24-3 lead heading into the fourth.
With the outcome long decided, both teams traded a pair of goals in a quieter final frame. Marek Albiero and Zach Crotwell extended the Seahawk lead to 26-3 before Norwood capped his afternoon with his third goal of the game - another man-up tally - to set the final score at 26-4. The home faithful left Multi Purpose Field with plenty to be excited about as the Seahawks showed no signs of slowing down.
Goalkeeper Jakson Chadwick was rarely tested but made five saves in 60 minutes of work to earn the win.
