WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The No. 24-ranked Keiser baseball team exploded for seven runs in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to a 15-6 victory over Midland on Saturday afternoon at Silvester Jr. Field. The Seahawks improved to 13-5 on the season with the win. With the victory, Keiser took the series with the Warriors, three games to one.
Midland (3-11) briefly threatened in the top of the first, but Keiser quickly seized control in the bottom half. The Seahawks sent 11 batters to the plate in the opening frame, tallying six hits and capitalizing on two balks and a wild pitch. Ty Martinez delivered an RBI single, Jake Olsen ripped an RBI double down the left-field line, and Elian Collado capped the rally with a two-run single to put Keiser ahead 7-0 after one.
Midland responded with a two-run homer from Owen Glover in the second, but Keiser answered immediately. A bunt by Andres Balart forced an error that brought home a run, and Maurice Maiquez followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 10-2.
The Seahawks added single runs in the third and fourth, highlighted by a solo home run from Tad Brooks in the third and another RBI knock from Martinez in the fourth.
Midland made its biggest push in the fifth, plating three runs on four hits to trim the deficit to 12-5. However, Keiser's bullpen settled in from there.
Right-hander Kyles Keyes (2-0) earned the win, tossing five innings while allowing five runs on nine hits. Dallin Weatherly provided two scoreless innings of relief, and Allen Leitner closed out the final two frames to secure the victory.
The Seahawks put the game away in the eighth inning, scoring three runs behind a two-run single from Collado and a sacrifice fly by Olsen to make it 15-6.
Keiser finished with 15 runs on 14 hits, while Midland totaled six runs on 13 hits. The Seahawks also turned two double plays defensively in the win.
