MONTGOMERY, Ala. - No. 24 Baseball split a neutral-site doubleheader Friday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama, rallying for a 10-8 victory over Indiana Wesleyan in the opener before falling 4-1 to (rv) Faulkner in the nightcap.
Keiser's offense exploded for 10 runs in the first three innings against Indiana Wesleyan, then held off a late surge to claim the opener.
The Seahawks set the tone early with a four-run first. Tad Brooks delivered a two-run double and Jeremy Garcia added a two-run single to give Keiser an early cushion. The offense stayed hot in the second, pushing across two more to build a 6-1 advantage.
Keiser put the game seemingly out of reach with four more runs in the third when Elian Collado stole home and Ty Martinez scored on a wild pitch, with walks and hit batsmen accounting for the rest.
Indiana Wesleyan battled back with a three-run homer in the third, then added two in the sixth and two more in the seventh to pull within 10-8, but Keiser's early cushion held up.
Carson Hawkes earned his third win of the season with 2.2 innings of relief, and Allen Leitner shut the door over the final 1.1 innings for his first save, retiring all four batters he faced.
The Seahawks bats went cold in the nightcap, managing just three hits as (rv) Faulkner claimed a 4-1 victory in the seven-inning game. Keiser grabbed an early lead when Tad Brooks singled home Ty Martinez in the first, but that would be all the offense Keiser could muster. Brooks, Garcia and Martinez each had a hit, but the Seahawks grounded into three double plays and left eight runners stranded.
Faulkner broke through in the fourth with a three-run rally as the Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single. Keiser threatened in the seventh, putting runners on second and third with one out, but a groundout into an inning-ending double play sealed the loss.
Austin Taylor took the loss despite going the distance and pitching well. The junior worked all six innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out seven and walking three.
Keiser moves to 6-3 on the season.
