West Palm Beach, Fla. - Senior forward Satori Griffin led Keiser to a statement 64-39 victory over visiting Southeastern on Wednesday evening, pouring in a game-high 19 points on an efficient 9-of-15 shooting performance as the Seahawks handed the nationally-ranked Fire their first conference loss of the season. The 25-point victory improved Keiser to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Southeastern fell to 14-3 and 4-1 in what proved to be a complete defensive clinic by the home team.
Senior guard Jasmyn Hale put on a defensive masterclass, recording a career-high seven steals while adding 11 points in 31 minutes of action. Her relentless pressure set the tone for a Keiser defense that forced 24 turnovers and converted them into 20 points, completely disrupting Southeastern's offensive rhythm from the opening tip. Hale's seven steals represented one of the finest individual defensive performances in program history and came at the perfect time against a ranked opponent that had been rolling through the early portion of the season.
After a tightly contested first quarter that saw Keiser trailing 15-14, the Seahawks exploded in the second period, outscoring Southeastern 25-8 in a dominant 10-minute stretch that turned a one-point deficit into a commanding 39-23 halftime advantage. Griffin anchored the offense during the decisive run, controlling the paint and consistently finding open teammates throughout the contest, demonstrating the kind of two-way excellence that makes her one of the conference's premier players. Her ability to score efficiently while facilitating for others proved to be the difference as Keiser built an insurmountable lead.
Keiser's offensive balance proved too much for Southeastern to handle, as the Seahawks received significant contributions throughout their roster. Beyond Griffin's 19 points, Emelia O'Gilvie stuffed the stat sheet with four points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 25 minutes of floor time. Aly Avrach added seven points while knocking down a crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter that extended the lead to 30 points at 62-32, effectively putting the game out of reach. Carolina de Domingo controlled the tempo from the point guard position, dishing out four assists and grabbing five rebounds while contributing seven points, including three first-half three-pointers that helped Keiser build separation during their dominant second quarter.
The Fire struggled mightily against Keiser's defensive pressure, shooting just 30.6% from the field on 15-of-49 attempts and a dismal 16.7% from beyond the arc, connecting on only 3-of-18 three-point tries. Southeastern's 24 turnovers led to numerous Keiser transition opportunities, and the visitors never established any offensive rhythm against the swarming Seahawk defense. Mya Herman led Southeastern with 15 points but required 17 shots to reach that total, while Grace Field added 10 points but committed nine turnovers as the Fire's offense sputtered throughout the evening. The normally efficient Southeastern attack looked completely out of sorts, unable to execute their sets or find good looks against Keiser's pressure.
Any hopes of a Southeastern comeback were dashed in the third quarter when Keiser extended its lead to 59-30, shooting 63.6% in the period while the defense continued to suffocate the visitors. The Seahawks held the Fire to just 7 points on 3-of-11 shooting in the frame, and Southeastern's frustration became evident as they committed 10 turnovers in the quarter alone. Keiser's bench contributed 26 points on the night, with Amalia Vamvakitis providing nine points in just 11 minutes of action. The depth advantage allowed the Seahawks to maintain fresh legs throughout the contest and keep constant pressure on Southeastern's ball handlers, who wilted under the relentless defensive onslaught.
The Seahawks will look to carry this momentum into their next contest as they travel to Babson Park Saturday to face Webber International in conference action at 2:00 PM.
