Keiser men's basketball dominated from start to finish to defeat New College of Florida 87-73 on Saturday afternoon at the Student Life Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. The victory improved the Seahawks to 12-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
Keiser seized control early and never looked back, jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead in the opening minutes. Jackson Slater converted a fast-break layup on the game's first possession, followed by back-to-back buckets from Camerin James to set the tone. New College finally got on the board at the 16:45 mark with a Shawn Lefresne layup, but the Seahawks maintained their aggressive approach. The visitors cut the deficit to single digits at 21-7 following a Ben Walker three-pointer. However, Keiser responded with a 12-4 run fueled by their bench, pushing the advantage back to 33-21. New College made one final push before halftime, with Alex Excellent sparking a 7-0 spurt that brought the score to 31-23. But Keiser closed the half strong, taking a 41-29 lead into the locker room..
The second half began with both teams trading baskets, but Keiser quickly extinguished any hopes of a New College comeback. The Seahawks went on a decisive 17-5 run over a six-minute stretch, highlighted by Loghan Downie's three-pointer and a fast-break dunk from James. Cameron Baldwin's defensive presence was felt during this surge, blocking three shots in during the stretch. By the 14:29 mark, Keiser had stretched their lead to a commanding 25 points at 59-34, effectively putting the game out of reach. New College showed fight in the final minutes, with Walker and Excellent connecting on multiple three-pointers to trim the deficit, but the Seahawks never allowed the margin to dip below 13 points.
Keiser will be back at home to take on (rv) Southeastern on Wednesday, January 7. Tipoff from the Sudent Life Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 7:30 p.m.
