With two teams riding 12-game winning streaks facing off in West Palm, Keiser men's basketball emerged on top with an 84-62 victory over Southeastern on Wednesday night at the Student Life Center. The win pushed the Seahawks to 13-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play.
The game began as a back-and-forth affair in the opening minutes as Southeastern struck first with a Nathan Mikkelson three-pointer, taking an early 3-0 lead. Keiser responded quickly, however, with Camerin James scoring a paint bucket and Jackson Slater connecting from beyond the arc to tie the game at 6-6. The lead changed hands multiple times in the first half, with the score knotted at 8-8, 24-24, and 33-33. For Keiser, Slater provided a spark with eight points in the opening period, including a pair of three-pointers. Nadir Myers came off the bench to hit a late three-pointer, giving the Seahawks a 36-33 advantage at halftime.
The second half was a different story entirely as Keiser exploded out of the locker room, embarking on a game-changing 27-7 run over the first eight minutes. James led the charge, scoring 10 of his game-high 27 points during the stretch. Myers caught fire from deep, draining three three-pointers in quick succession, and Cameron Baldwin asserted his defensive dominance with multiple blocks at the rim. By the 10:21 mark, Keiser had stretched their lead to 61-43, and the rout was on. The Seahawks' defense clamped down on Southeastern, holding them to just 29.0% shooting in the second half. Keiser capitalized on every opportunity, finishing the game with a 22-point advantage.
The Seahawks will finally be back on the road this weekend with a matchup against Webber Int'l. Tipoff from the Sabbaugh Athletic Center in Babson Park, Fla. is set for noon.
