No. 6 Keiser men's basketball dominated the second half to pull away from Florida College, claiming a convincing 78-63 road victory on Tuesday evening at the Conn Gymnasium. The win pushed Keiser's record to 17-3 overall, while the Falcons fell to 6-17 on the season.
The opening period featured one tie and four lead changes as neither team could establish sustained control. Florida College jumped out to an early 19-18 advantage midway through the half following Sam Massaquoi's three-point play at the 10:33 mark. However, Keiser's bench sparked a crucial momentum shift. The Seahawks embarked on a 9-0 run over the next six minutes, featuring clutch plays from Mathew Shea and Jackson Kennedy. Slater energized the run with back-to-back layups, while Kennedy capped it with a putback at 6:45 to give Keiser a 27-21 cushion. Florida College refused to fold, cutting the deficit to 29-29 with 4:03 remaining on Massaquoi's layup. But Keiser finished the half strong, with Slater draining a three-pointer at 2:05 and Downie following with another from downtown at 1:16 to push the lead to six. Cameron Baldwin's layup just before the buzzer gave the Seahawks a 37-31 halftime advantage.
Keiser came out of the locker room with renewed energy and defensive intensity, scoring the first eight points of the second half. Camerin James ignited the spurt with a steal and layup just 23 seconds into the period, pushing the lead to 39-31. After Massaquoi briefly stemmed the tide with a layup, James answered right back with another bucket, and Jonathan Paul's layup at 15:10 extended the advantage to 43-37. After Myers connected on a jumper to make it 47-39 at 13:07, Slater took over with back-to-back three-pointers, including one at 11:07 that gave Keiser a commanding 55-42 lead and forced a timeout from the home team. The Seahawks continued to pour it on, stretching the advantage to 18 points at 72-54 with 4:01 remaining when Slater connected on his third three-pointer of the half, assisted by James. Myers iced the game with two free throws at 0:59, leading KU to the 78-63 win.
