Miami Gardens, Fla. – The Keiser Seahawks (13-4, 5-2) found a way to win on Saturday afternoon, edging Florida Memorial 59-55 in overtime at the FMU Wellness Center. In a defensive battle where neither team found offensive rhythm, Keiser's ability to make plays down the stretch proved to be the difference.
Satori Griffin paced the Seahawks with 15 points while adding four rebounds and four assists. Though her shot wasn't falling consistently from three-point range, Griffin came through when it mattered most, scoring key baskets in overtime including the go-ahead layup with 24 seconds remaining.
Avrie Schmidt battled through a tough shooting night to contribute 12 points and seven rebounds in 39 minutes. With Keiser trailing 49-48 and just three seconds remaining in regulation, Schmidt stepped to the line with the game on the line. She calmly sank the first free throw to tie the game at 49, then missed the second, sending the contest to overtime where the Seahawks would ultimately prevail.
Caidyn Cannon made her presence felt on the defensive end with six steals and three blocks, constantly disrupting Florida Memorial's offense. She added 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Seahawks struggled with their shooting touch, connecting on just 33% from the field, but their defensive pressure created opportunities. Keiser forced 29 turnovers and recorded 14 steals as a team, with Carolina de Domingo contributing six steals along with four points, including two clutch free throws in the final seconds of overtime.
Aly Avrach provided an offensive boost, knocking down 3-of-4 from three-point range for 9 points. Her shooting gave Keiser a lift during stretches when baskets were hard to find, including a timely third-quarter three that tied the game at 40.
