Keiser men's basketball suffered its second consecutive loss, falling 65-51 to Florida Memorial on Saturday afternoon in Miami Gardens. The defeat dropped the Seahawks to 14-3 overall and 5-2 in SUN play, while the Lions improved to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in conference action.
The first half was a tightly contested affair with multiple lead changes and ties. Keiser opened the scoring as Downie hit a jumper assisted by Camerin James to give the Seahawks an early 2-0 lead. The game remained competitive throughout the opening period, with neither team able to establish separation. James provided consistent scoring for the Seahawks in the first half, finishing the period with nine points while grabbing five rebounds. Jonathan Paul came off the bench to contribute five points, going 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Jackson Kennedy also made an impact with a fast-break dunk assisted by Slater to tie the game at 21-21. Jackson Slater knocked down a three-pointer late in the half to give Keiser a 25-24 lead, but Florida Memorial's Cameron Noel answered with a jumper at the buzzer to send the Lions into halftime with a 28-25 advantage.
The second half belonged to Florida Memorial as the Lions started the half with a 10-3 run. The Seahawks spent the remainder of the game trying to fight from behind, getting as close as seven points behind with 6:42 to play. The Lions would hold on down the stretch, shooting 6-for-10 from the field while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to earn the win.
Keiser will try to put the losses into the rearview as they return home on Wednesday, January 21 to take on Coastal Georgia. Tipoff from the Student Life Center in West Palm Beach is set for 7:30 p.m.
