The Keiser Athletic Department announced this week's Seahawks Athletes of the Week on Tuesday. This week's winners, sophomore running back
Jaden Miller and senior forward
Maria Vilhena, were recognized for their performances during the week of Aug. 31.
Jaden Miller, Second Year, RB, Miami, Fla.
- Named the Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week
- Led a Keiser running attack that poured on 171 yards on the ground (6.3 yards per carry) and four rushing touchdowns versus the No. 6-ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats of Saturday
- Miller alone accounted for 140 yards on 19 carries (7.4 yards per carry). To put that into perspective, last season, IWU allowed just 2.8 yards per carry on the year and only nine rushing touchdowns in 13 games
- His four rushing touchdowns tied the school record for rushing TDs in a game - Marques Burgess versus Warner – 10/31/2021 & Jaden Meizinger versus Thomas [Ga] – 9/9/2023
- In the three instances in program history this record has occurred, Miller's is the only one on the road and against a ranked opponent
- He busted a 70-yard touchdown run late in the fourth to give the Seahawks a 38-31 lead
- Miller currently leads the NAIA in rushing TDs (4) and is tied for No. 4 in the nation in yards per game (140.0)
Maria Vilhena, Fourth Year, F, Faro, Portugal
- Led Keiser to a 2-0 start as the Seahawks defeated Barry University, 6-0
- Grabbed an assist on the second goal of the game
- Scored a goal of her own just before the half
- In the second half, she notched another assist and now is tied for the team lead
- Produced four shots in the game (one on net)
- On the season, Vilhena leads the team in total shots (9)
- She is tied for second on the team with four total points
Both Vilhena and Miller will now be in the running for the Keiser Athlete of the Month (September) award in October.
