No. 1 Men's Lacrosse Advances to NAIA Semifinals with 16-7 Win over No. 10 William Penn

The No. 1-ranked Keiser men's lacrosse team opened the Inaugural NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Championship with a 16-7 win in the quarterfinals over the William Penn Statesmen on Wednesday morning. Kegan Hufford led all Seahawks with five goals and six points. The senior attacker netted the game's first goal with 13:22 left in the first, marking the goal of the Inaugural NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Championship. Ryan Stowell added four goals and an assist for five points. JP Prather also notched a hat trick, scoring three goals, while Ryan Rundle and Chris Rayburn also registered scores.

In net, Lucas Green recorded a season-high 17 saves en route to his 12th win of the season. Keiser is now 10-5 overall in NAIA postseason play (NAIA National and Invitational Tournaments).

First Quarter

Keiser 3, William Penn 1
  • Kegan Hufford netted his 26th goal of the season, giving Keiser a 1-0 lead with 13:22 left in the first
  • The score marked the first goal recorded in the NAIA National Championship 
  • With the game tied, 1-1, Ryan Stowell broke the tie with a goal at the 5:24 mark 
  • JP Prather extended the lead to 3-1 with his 25th goal of 2025

Second Quarter

Keiser 8, William Penn 3
  • The Statesmen pulled within one, 3-2, with a goal by Max Taylor (14:34)
  • Following a penalty on Stowell, giving WPU a man-up opportunity, Lucas Green made an acrobatic save with 9:33 on the game clock to keep Keiser ahead
  •  Less than two minutes later, Matt Sheehy pushed the Seahawk's lead to 4-2
  • Hufford registered the early hat trick with a pair of goals in the final six minutes
  • Prather closed out the half, finding the back of the net with one second left on the game clock

Third Quarter

Keiser 12, William 6
  • Prather recorded his fifth hat trick of the season, with his third goal of the game (7:16)
  • The Statesmen scored three straight goals as Keiser's lead was cut to 10-6
  • Chris Rayburn scored a quick goal off the faceoff as Keiser led 11-6 (2:57)
  • Ryan Rundle added a score with 2:10 on the game clock to push the lead to six

Fourth Quarter

Keiser 16, William Penn 7
  • The Statesmen scored the first goal of the fourth with 13:22 left in the game
  • The Seahawks pulled away with four unanswered goals 
  • Stowell recorded goals three and four of the game for his sixth hat trick of the season

  • With the win, Keiser improves to 13-1 on the year
  • The Seahawks are now 10-5 overall in NAIA postseason play (NAIA National and Invitational Tournaments)
  • Keiser has out-scored the opposition, 231-111, this season
  • Leading all Seahawks with five goals and one assist (six points), Kegan Hufford recorded his fourth hat trick of the season
  • In the opening game of the Inaugural NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Championship, Hufford will go down in the record books as the first player to score in the NAIA Men's National Championship
  • Hufford's goal came at the 13:22 mark of the first quarter
  • Ryan Stowell added four goals and an assist (five points), notching his sixth hat trick of the season
  • JP Prather added his fifth hat trick of 2025 with three goals in the game
  • The Seahawks registered nine assists on their 16 goals
  • Leading the way was Kyle Davis, who has three assists

  • Keiser controlled the face-off circle, winning 16-of-26
  • Chris Rayburn was 13-of-16 for the game
  • KU collected a total of 36 groundballs as 17 different Seahawks tallied at least one groundball 
  • Zach Crotwell led the way with six groundballs 
  • Stowell and Rundle combined for four of the team's 12 caused turnovers
  • Between the pipes, Lucas Green made a career-high 17 saves 
  • The Seahawks out-shot William Penn, 47-43
