After falling in AAC Championship last year, the No. 1 Keiser men's lacrosse team earned the AAC Title, defeating the University of Cumberlands (Ky.), 11-9 on Saturday. This is the second time Keiser has won the AAC title in program history, and marks the first for Head Coach
Jeff Desko. The Seahawks were led in scoring by
Kegan Hufford, who supplied a hat-trick, followed by
Vincent Cerasuolo and
Ryan Stowell with two apiece.
Shane Cassidy,
Kegan Hufford, and
Lucas Green were named to the AAC All-Tournament Team. Freshman
Ryan Stowell was named the AAC Tournament MVP. Throughout the tournament Stowell produced six goals, two assists, and two caused turnovers.
Keiser is back in action on Wednesday, May 7, as they travel to Savannah, Georgia, to compete in the NAIA National Tournament.
Keiser 2, UC 1
- After a UC penalty, AJ Badik found Braeden Niemy, who seized a man-up opportunity to put the Seahawks on the board first with 9:22 remaining in the quarter
- The Patriots answered back at 7:03 with a solo goal from Will Rogers
- JP Prather split his defender to put the Seahawks back in the lead with a little over four minutes to go
Keiser 6, UC 3
- After a turnover by UC, Ryan Rundle and Ryan Stowell connected to make it 3-1 KU with 12:00 remaining
- Marek Albiero assisted Stowell, who netted his second goal of the quarter to put the Seahawks up three with 9:12 on the clock
- Rundle collected his second assist as Vincent Cerasuolo found the back of the net to make it 5-1 KU
- Nick Kava put an end to the Seahawks' scoring run with a solo goal
- A minute later, Johnathon Vanover brought UC within two with 4:15 to go before the half
- With 2:48 before the half, Cerasuolo netted a solo goal to bring the Sehawks lead back to three
- Lucas Green made four saves in the half
Keiser 8, UC 6
- Fifty-three seconds into the second half, UC opened the scoring with a solo goal to cut the Keiser lead to two
- At 11:30, Rundle found Kegan Hufford to make it 7-4 KU
- Two minutes later, Rogers and Evan Barton connected for a UC goal
- Cumberlands cut the lead to one with a goal from Barton with 6:31 to go
- Albiero put an end to the Patriots' scoring run with a little over four minutes on the clock
Keiser 11, UC 9
- After five minutes of play, the Seahawks scored first in the quarter as Hufford found the back of the net
- At 8:35, Rundle found the low corner to make it 10-4 Seahawks
- With 3:32 left in the game, UC's Rogers brought the Patriots within three
- Thirty-two seconds later, Hufford collected his hat-trick for the four-goal lead
- Rogers scored again with a little over a minute to go to make it 11-8 KU
- With 27 seconds remaining in the AAC Championship, Maleek Wilson was able to find the back of the net to bring the Patriots within two
- A face-off win from Cole Nappi secured the AAC Championship for the Seahawks
