Seahawks Fall to Morningside in Final Day of West Palm Beach Invitational

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Keiser women's basketball dropped a 72-60 decision to visiting Morningside on Tuesday afternoon in the final day of the West Palm Beach Invitational. The loss moves the Seahawks to 8-3 on the season, while the Mustangs improve to 10-4.

The game was tightly contested through the first half, with Morningside taking a slim 35-34 lead into the break. The Seahawks kept pace early, trailing just 18-17 after one quarter before the teams remained deadlocked at 35-34 at halftime. However, the Mustangs seized control in the third quarter, outscoring Keiser 26-16 to build a 60-51 advantage heading into the final period. The decisive third quarter saw Morningside shoot 57.9 percent from the field while limiting the Seahawks to just 41.7 percent shooting. The Seahawks were unable to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring just nine points on 12.5 percent shooting while Morningside added 12 to seal the victory. Keiser managed just two field goals in the final frame as the Mustangs' defense clamped down.

Avrie Schmidt and Aly Avrach led the Seahawks with 10 points apiece. Schmidt added three rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes of action, while Avrach provided a spark off the bench, knocking down 2-of-6 from three-point range in 14 minutes. Satori Griffin contributed eight points, five rebounds, and two assists in a team-high 31 minutes on the floor.

Carolina de Domingo facilitated the offense with a team-leading five assists to go along with six points, while Caidyn Cannon added six points and four steals in 23 minutes. Jasmyn Hale chipped in six points and six rebounds, and Mahiro Oyama provided energy off the bench with three points and a team-high four steals.

The Seahawks struggled offensively throughout the contest, shooting just 35.0 percent from the field (21-60) and 28.0 percent from three-point range (7-25). Despite forcing 26 turnovers and recording 16 steals as a team, the Seahawks were unable to capitalize consistently on those opportunities.

Keiser will look to bounce back on December 29th when they welcome Trinity College (Fla.). Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
