WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Keiser Seahawks women's basketball responded emphatically from their conference opener loss, dominating Florida National 93-75 on Wednesday afternoon at home in the Student Life Center. The Seahawks shot a blistering 63.0% from the field and dished out 29 assists in a well-rounded offensive performance that saw four players reach double figures.
Keiser controlled the game from start to finish, building a commanding 46-32 halftime lead and extending the advantage to as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks' offensive efficiency was on full display as they shot 63.0% (34-54) from the field, 44.4% (4-9) from three-point range, and 70.0% (21-30) from the free-throw line.
Senior forward Avrie Schmidt led the offense with a game-high 25 points on an impressive 10-12 shooting from the field. Schmidt was virtually unstoppable in the paint and knocked down her lone three-point attempt while adding six rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes of action.
Junior guard Emelia O'Gilvie provided a spark with 13 points, six rebounds, and a team-high eight assists, orchestrating the offense to perfection. Senior guards Caidyn Cannon and Jasmyn Hale each contributed 12 points, with Hale shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field and adding seven rebounds and 4 assists. Senior Satori Griffin chipped in nine points on 4-5 shooting, while Aly Avrach added seven points and four assists off the bench.
The Seahawks established control early, taking a 22-19 lead after the first quarter behind balanced scoring from Schmidt, Hale, and Cannon. Keiser extended the lead to 46-32 by halftime, shooting 66.7% in the second quarter and forcing Florida National into difficult shots. The Seahawks' defensive pressure resulted in 9 steals in the first half, with the team converting turnovers into easy transition baskets.
The third quarter saw Keiser continue to pull away, outscoring Florida National 25-11 to take a commanding 71-43 lead into the final period. Schmidt was particularly dominant in the third, scoring 12 of her 25 points in the frame while shooting a perfect 7-7 from the field in the second half. The Seahawks' ball movement was exceptional throughout, with O'Gilvie and Mahiro Oyama facilitating the offense with precision passing.
Florida National mounted a spirited fourth-quarter rally, outscoring Keiser 32-22 in the final period behind the shooting of Kaylee Llanos, who finished with a team-high 30 points on 10-16 shooting.The visitors shot an impressive 50.0% from the field and 60.0% from three-point range for the game, but their defensive struggles proved too much to overcome.
The Seahawks' bench provided valuable contributions throughout the contest, scoring 33 points compared to Florida National's 15 bench points. Sophomore Kailey Christensen made the most of her minutes with eight points on 4-5 shooting, all coming in the second half. Junior Amalia Vamvakitis added five points and seven rebounds while providing energy and toughness on the boards.
Keiser dominated the rebounding battle, out-rebounding Florida National 39-14, including a 13-3 advantage on the offensive glass. The Seahawks' defensive effort forced 17 turnovers and recorded nine steals, with Cannon leading the way with three steals.
