No. 15 Keiser men's basketball was bested late in the game against No. 24 Ave Maria on Wednesday night, falling 94-90 on the road. Calvin Sirmans was the highest scorer in the game with 26 points and led all players with six assists. The Seahawks also had the player with the most rebounds in the game in Vincent Miszkiewicz who secured 17 boards on the evening in addition to his 14 points. The whistle from the referee's was on call often as Keiser was called for a season-high 26 fouls and sent the Gyrenes to the free-throw line for 34 attempts. 

Keiser will have to brush off the loss as they look forward to Saturday's matchup on the home floor against No. 22 Florida Memorial. Tipoff from the Student Life Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 4:00 p.m.

With 1:05 remaining in the game, Michael Klekas hit a jumper in the lane to put the Gyrenes up by four. Ave Maria would force a miss on the other end and convert their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

 
 
How it Happened


First Half
Keiser 40, Ave Maria 36
  • For a fifth straight game, Keiser opened the contest with a three-point shot, this time from Cameron Stitt who gave Keiser the early lead
  • The Seahawks would ride the momentum to a 12-5 lead capped by a three from Loghan Downie
  • KU would extend their lead to nine before the Gyrenes bounced back with a three from Nick Filchner that made it a three-point lead for KU
  • Malik Kabia kicked off the next run with a three before finishing a ridiculous one-handed slam on an alley-oop from Calvin Sirmans to make it an 11-point lead with 6:37 on the clock
  • The Gyrenes would cut the Keiser lead to two with under a minute to play in the half before a layup by Albert Dennis gave the Seahawks the four-point advantage at the break


Second Half
Ave Maria 94, Keiser 90
  • Stitt opened the second half just as hot as the first with eight of the first nine points for the Seahawks as KU went up 49-41
  • The two sides kept it close for the next three minutes before the Gyrenes cut the lead to one on an and-1 three by Micheal Klekas with 11:42 remaining
  • Sirmans would respond with his own three foul shots, missing the final one, but Kabia would convert the layup to put Keiser back ahead by seven with over ten minutes left
  • Ave Maria would take their first lead of the night with 7:35 to play on a Klekas jumper, 69-68
  • The Gyrenes would hold on to their lead under the five-minute mark as Miszkiewicz cut it to three with a layup
  • Sirmans would cut the lead to three with 2:11 on the clock followed by a Kabia free throw, but the Gyrenes would convert on the other end and stretch the lead back out to six with 12 seconds left
  • Sirmans connected from three again with two seconds left to cut it to a four-point game, but the Gyrenes would secure the inbound and run out the clock
