No. 8 Keiser women's soccer wrapped up their weekend with another top-3 victory on Sunday, defeating No. 3 Tennessee Southern 3-2 at the Foley Athletics Complex. Tennessee Southern grabbed the first goal of the contest in the 21st minute to take a 1-0 lead into the half. The Seahawks countered in the second half with a two-minute brace by Lauren Riley before Ellen Maund chested in a third goal in the 75th minute. The Firehawks would get a goal back with 10 minutes to play, but Keiser would hold on for the win as time expired.

The Seahawks return home for a match on Saturday, September 14 when they take on New College of Florida with the kickoff set for 12:00 PM.


How it Happened
  • Keiser had the first big chance of the game in the third minute as Lauren Riley struck from distance, but just missed wide
  • In the 13th minute, the Seahawks threatened with a corner, but  Iðunn Rán Gunnarsdóttir's header would sail wide
  • Less than 60 seconds later the Firehawks broke through on a 1-on-1 chance, but a touch save from Maude Rouanet would keep the score level
  • In the 21st minute, Tennessee Southern took advantage of a turnover in Keiser's half as Nao Katamoto grabbed control and found Marina Nawa for the goal
  • Seven minutes later Rouanet came up big again with a diving save to keep the ball out
  • Keiser's last big chance of the half came in the 34th minute, but Maria Vilhena's shot would just miss
  • Nearly 10 minutes into the second half, Steingerður Snorradóttir sent a free kick into the box, finding Gunnarsdottir who fired at the net, but was saved by the keeper. Riley, would quickly jump on the chance and knock in the tying goal
  • One minute later, Riley was back on the ball and fired a rocket from 30 yards out into the far corner of the net to give the Seahawks the lead
  • The Seahawks remained on the attack as Ramona Kannady put another ball in the back of the UTS net, but an offsides call would wipe the goal off the board in the 69th minute
  • In the 75th minute, Lina Gröbner whipped in a shot from a free-kick that was saved, but Ellen Maund was there to chest the ball into the net to give Keiser a 3-1 advantage
  • The Firehawks would not give up, as in the 80th minute, Keito Ido's shot ricocheted off the post and into the net to make it 3-2 KU
  • A minute later they would be back on the attack with the initial shot getting saved by Rouanet before a follow up shot was blocked by Julia Forslund
  • Tennessee Southern would continue their attempts forward, but Keiser would hold on strong for the 3-2 victory

Game Notes
  • Keiser improves to 3-0 on the year with the win and finishes the Orange Beach Classic with two wins for the first time since 2016
  • The Seahawks improve their record against top-5 opponents to 14-14-6
  • Riley's brace is the fourth of her career as she takes over the scoring lead on Keiser with three tallies
  • Maund's goal comes exactly two years to the day after she scored her last goal for Keiser after missing 2023 due to injury
  • Gunnarsdottir and Gröbner each grabbed an assist off a saved shot in the game
  • In goal, Rouanet turned in another fantastic effort, making five saves in the contest
  • For the third time this season, Keiser outshot their opponents, this time 19-15 (9-8 on goal)
