No. 2 Keiser women's soccer made their home debut a good one, taking down New College of Florida 5-2 at Arrigo-Vecellio Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Seahawks jumped in front with goals by
Maria Vilhena and
Ellen Maund before the Mighty Banyans tied the contest in the 39th minute on their second goal of the game. A late first-half goal from
Steingerður Snorradóttir put Keiser ahead at the break before two second-half goals from
Lauren Riley and
Ramona Kannady sealed the win.
The Seahawks will hit the road for a matchup against (rv) Southeastern on Wednesday, September 18, in Lakeland, Fla. Kickoff from the SEU soccer field is set for 7:00 PM.
- The Seahawks had the first chance of the game with Lauren Riley firing on target, but her shot would be saved
- Keiser would continue to pepper the Mighty Banyans keeper, racking up 12 shots in the first 23 minutes
- In the 24th minute, a misplaced pass from the keeper fell to Alicia Rey who quickly worked the ball to Maria Vilhena who fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to put Keiser ahead
- Three minutes later, Georgia Little's throw-in would go to Riley who found a cutting Ellen Maund who ripped a ball into the upper left netting to give KU a 2-0 lead
- In the 32nd minute, the Mighty Banyans would draw a foul at the edge of the box. Consuelo Di Maria would step up and curl a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-1
- New College of Florida was threatening again six minutes later as Di Maria cut in front of goal and redirected the corner kick into the net to tie the game at 2-2
- With time winding down in the first, Olivia Pousette played Steingerður Snorradóttir through who tapped the shot by the keeper to give Keiser a 3-2 advantage with five seconds left in the half
- Both sides would trade shots to begin the second half before a corner from Snorradóttir found Riley at the back post who guided her shot into the net to make it 4-2 KU
- The Seahawks would take control of the game from there as the shot total for KU rose into the thirties
- In the 80th minute, Gröbner's cross found Snorradóttir who crossed it back in to Ramona Kannady who slotted home her second goal of the season
- Keiser would press forward for a sixth goal but would settle for a 5-2 result
- Keiser moves to 4-0 on the year and picks up their first Sun Conference win
- The Seahawks also picked up their first home win of the season and improves to 62-3-1 since 2018 at Arrigo-Vecellio Field
- It was a breakout game from Snorradóttir who recorded a goal and two assists, all firsts this season
- Riley and Vilhena remain atop the Keiser leaderboard in goals with four and three, respectively
- Maund and Kannady are close behind as each now has two goals on the year
- Gröbner continues to add to her assist total, grabbing her third in four games
- Vera Croné, Little, Pousette, and Rey all tallied their first assist in the home opener
- Vilhena's 13 shots in the game are tied for the fourth-most in program history
- Keiser outshot New College of Florida 43-5 (22-2 on goal), the largest margin for the Seahawks this season
- The Seahawks also earned double-digit corner kick opportunities(12) for the second time this season
