After an hour delay to the start of the game due to weather, the No. 8 Keiser women's soccer team topped the No. 2 William Carey Crusaders under the lights in Foley, Alabama, 2-1.
Maria Vilhena nabbed the first goal of the contest following a saved header by Riley, Vilhena jumped on the chance and gave Keiser the lead.
Alicia Rey followed in the 19th minute with a strike from the top of the box to beat the keeper. The Crusaders would get a goal back, but the wild second half would end scoreless as the Seahawks grabbed the win.
The Seahawks will stay in Orange Beach, Alabama until Sunday when they will face No. 3 Tennessee Southern with a scheduled kickoff set for 11:00 AM CT.
- Keiser was on the front foot early as a cross finding the head of Lauren Riley was saved, but a reaction shot from Maria Vilhena found the back of the net to put the Seahawks on the board in the seventh minute
- William Carey countered and managed to get the ball across the line, but a foul call by the referee wiped away the would be goal
- In the 19th minute, Keiser was back on the attack as the ball fell to Alicia Rey who fired in her first goal for Keiser to put the Seahawks ahead 2-0
- Three minutes later, the Crusaders put together a quick attack with Esalenna Galekhutle scoring the goal
- Both sides would trade chances for the remainder of the half with KU maintaining a 2-1 lead into the break
- Keiser came out of the break on fire, creating six chances in the first 10 minutes
- In the 62nd and 76th minutes, Maude Rouanet made two crucial saves as the Crusaders continued to push forward
- Her last save of the night came in the 81st minute, securing a career-high six saves
- KU would hold off William Carey for the remaining nine minutes to earn the 2-1 win.
- Keiser moves to 2-0 on the season and picks up their first ranked win of the year
- The Seahawks are now 65-34-11 against ranked opponents all-time
- KU is now 3-3-1 against top-3 opponents over the last three seasons
- Vilhena's goal was the second of the season and now leads the team in scoring
