(rv) Seahawks Battle With No. 11 St. Thomas, Drop Contest in Five Sets

The Keiser volleyball team fell short in the battle between the top two teams in the Sun Conference Wednesday night. The Seahawks fought hard against the No. 11 team and took the highest-ranked team in the SUN to five sets (16-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-19, 13-15). This match marked the first five-setter of the season for Keiser. Defensively, Keiser recorded 20 block assists in the intense match. The two teams were neck-and-neck in digs, with the Seahawks recording 77 and the Bobcats recording 78.

How it Happened

SET 1 (STU, 16-25)

  • Keiser trailed early in the first set as St. Thomas took an 8-1 lead
  • A kill from Mackenzie Pryor helped the Seahawks make a comeback
  • However, St. Thomas quickly extended their lead to 15-5 after Keiser committed back-to-back attack errors
  • The Seahawks called a second timeout with the Bobcats' lead growing to 19-8. An attack error from St. Thomas allowed Keiser to close the gap to 10 points
  •  Despite their efforts, the Seahawks dropped the first set, which ended with a kill from the Bobcats

SET 2 (STU, 23-25)

  • A kill by Pryor got the Seahawks going early.
  • Aby Tibesar and Pryor recorded a block assist to give Keiser a 3-2 lead
  •  The Seahawks extended their advantage to 14-10 after two attack errors from St. Thomas
  • Hannah Heide added a service ace, pushing Keiser's lead to 17-10
  • The Seahawks called a timeout following a four-point run by the Bobcats
  • An attack error by Keiser allowed St. Thomas to close the gap to 21-20

SET 3 (KU, 25-14)

  • Keiser tied the match at 5-5 following an attack error by St. Thomas
  • Frederica Silva then secured a kill to give Keiser a 10-9 lead
  •  A key turning point for the Seahawks came when Silva and Pryor each recorded kills, prompting St. Thomas to call a timeout
  • Keiser continued to dominate in set two with an eleven-point run, taking a commanding 24-13 lead
  • Emma Friese ended the set with a kill, allowing the Seahawks to advance to the next set

SET 4 (KU, 25-19)

  • A bad set by St. Thomas gave Keiser a 7-6 lead
  • Silva then served up an ace to extend the Seahawks' advantage to 10-8
  •  Kills by Pryor and Silva prompted the Bobcats to call a timeout
  • Blocks by Tibesar and Friese further extended Keiser's lead to four points
  • Kills by Heide and Isabella Steffel increased the lead to 21-16, leading to a second timeout for the Bobcats
  • Pryor then led the Seahawks to set five with a decisive kill

SET 5 (STU 13-15)

  • The Seahawks took a 3-2 lead after two attack errors from the Bobcats
  • A block assist from St. Thomas evened the score at 7-7
  • Keiser regained the lead with a kill from Silva
  • Set five was tied 13-13 after Pryor recorded her 14th kill of the match
  •  The battle of South Florida concluded when the Bobcats secured a block assist to end the thrilling match
