Men's Basketball Defeats Southeastern at Home for Season Sweep, 78-76

The Keiser men's basketball team completed the season series sweep of the Southeastern Fire with a 78-76 win on Wednesday night. The Seahawks weathered a 17-2 run by the Fire in the final 1:45 to come away with a two-point victory.

Keiser had four Seahawks reach double figures in scoring, including Vincent Miszkiewicz, who notched his 21st double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Calvin Sirmans also notched a double-double (his fifth of the season) with 17 points and 10 assists. Also reaching double figures in scoring were Justin Nichelson (18) and Brandon Farmer (10).

First Half
Southeastern 37, Keiser 36
  • Vincent Miszkiewicz scored the first five points of the game to give Keiser an early 5-0 lead (18:42).
  • A 3-pointer by Montez Leath tied the game at 8-8 with 15:56 on the game clock.
  • Miszkiewicz hit another 3-pointer as Keiser led 17-11 (13:03).
  • SEU used a 9-0 run to take a 20-17 lead with 9:21 left in the half.
  • After a triple by Justin Nichelson, the Fire used another run (6-0) to take a 26-20 lead.
  • Reggie Mesidor extended SEU's lead to nine, 31-22, with 5:21 on the clock.
  • The Seahawks cut into the Fire lead with a 6-0 run (33-30 - 2:27).
  • Trailing by seven, the Seahawks used back-to-back buckets from downtown to head into halftime down by one.

Second Half

  • Keiser scored two straight baskets to take a 40-37 lead with 18:52 remaining.
  • Down 47-42, Tylar Cerez hit a 3-pointer to make it a two-point game (14:12).
  • Midway through the second half, the Seahawks went on a 14-0 run to take a 10-point lead, 59-49.
  • Off a steal by Nichelson, Brandon Farmer got the bucket and the foul as Keiser led 67-57 (4:35).
  • The Seahawks pushed their run to 8-0 with a layup and a foul by Nichelson, 71-57, resulting in a Southeastern timeout (3:49).
  • Out of the timeout, Nichelson completed the three-point play, 72-57.
  • The Seahawks held a 17-point lead with 1:45 left in the game.
  • The Fire used a 17-2 run to cut Keiser's lead to two, 78-76, with 15 seconds left in regulation.
  • Southeastern regained possession of the ball following a steal by Meisdor.
  • As time expired, SEU's Sean Shore drove the lane for the game-tying bucket, but the shot did not fall as Keiser was victorious.
