The Keiser women's basketball team clinched a top-2 seed in the upcoming Sun Conference Women's Basketball Championship with a 69-67 win over Florida Memorial to close out the regular season on Saturday.
Five Seahawks reached double-figures in scoring led by
Elise Ellison, who posted 14. Also scoring in double-digits were
Kyra Long (11),
Elliana Schaefer (10),
Julia Fitzwater (13), and
Zariah Jenkins (10). With a team-high 10 rebounds, Fitzwater notched the second double-double of her Keiser career.
Prior to the contest, Keiser recognized senior
Julia Fitzwater for her contributions to the Seahawks women's basketball program.
A made free throw by
Elliana Schaefer with three seconds left in the game, gave Keiser a 69-67. With no timeouts left, Florida Memorial tried to drive the length of the court, heaving a desperation shot which did not fall as the Seahawks prevailed.
Keiser 14, Florida Memorial 11
- The Seahawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead following a layup by Elise Ellison (8:36).
- Ellison added two more points from the line as Keiser led, 6-3 (7:37).
- FMU used a 4-0 run to take its first lead of the contest, 7-6 (4:05).
- Quameerah Peterson-Gray hit a 3-point to extend FMU's lead to 10-6 (2:21).
- Kyra Long snapped the Seahawks drought with a made layup with 2:11 left in the first (10-8).

- Out of a media timeout, Elliana Schaefer tied the game, 21-21, after completing he traditional 3-point play (4:58).
- Keiser regained the lead, 23-21 with a layup by Long with 4:17 on the clock.
- Schaefer pulled Keiser within one, 26-25, with two made free throws (1:41).
- Off a steal, Schaefer put Keiser back on top, 27-26, with 39 second left in the half.
Keiser 52, Florida Memorial 46
- Ellison scored all six points for the Seahawks through the first three minutes of action as Keiser led, 33-32.
- After a Chantel Barnett 3-pointer gave FMU a 37-34 lead, Fitzwater responded with 3-pointer of her own to tie the game (4:50).
- Jones hit two free throws to give Keiser a 39-37 lead (4:29).
- The Seahawks scored six straight points to close out the quarter, 52-46.
Keiser 69, Florida Memorial 67
- Keiser used a 6-2 run late in the fourth to take a 63-56 lead with 4:39 remaining.
- Barnett made two free throws to pull the Lions to within three, 63-60 (3:44).
- With a 64-61 lead, Zariah Jenkins hit a both free throws from the line to give the Seahawks a 67-61 edge (1:02).
- Barnett responded with a made layup as Keiser led, 67-63, with 52 seconds left in the game.
- After a made free throw by Ftizwater, FMU's Kalea Rainey hit a bucket to make it a 68-65 game in favor of Keiser (13 seconds).
- After a timeout, FMU cut Keiser's lead to one, 68-67, following a make with five second left in the game, resulting in a Seahawks timeout.
- Schaefer pushed KU's lead to 69-67, making the second of two free throws with three seconds left.
