Keiser men's basketball came up short after battling back from down 24 on the road to St. Thomas on Wednesday night. The Seahawks brought the deficit to just 10 with three minutes to play, but the Bobcats would hold on to clinch the Sun Conference regular season title in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Vincent Miszkiewicz secured his 25th consecutive double-double, leading Keiser with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Justin Nichelson scored all 14 of his points in the second half, making four three-pointers during the half.
Jonathan Paul and
Calvin Sirmans were also able to hit double-digit scoring marks with 11 and 12, respectively.
After the score was brought within 10 with two minutes to play, Milton Matthews drew a three-point foul call to shut down the KU momentum and put the Bobcats ahead by 13.
St. Thomas 34, Keiser 23
- It was an even 6-6 start to the contest with Jonathan Paul scoring all six for the Seahawks early.
- The Bobcats then took control of the game, going on a 13-5 run over the next six minutes to take a 19-11 lead with 7:08 left to play.
- Keiser quickly cut the lead down to two with back-to-back threes from Paul and Calvin Sirmans over the next minute.
- St. Thomas would counter with a 15-6 run to close the half, taking a 34-23 lead into the break.
St. Thomas 73, Keiser 58
- St. Thomas continued their momentum into the second half, going on a 13-4 run as they opened their lead to 20, 47-27.
- The lead would grow to as much as 24 over the next five minutes.
- Justin Nichelson took the reigns for Keiser, hitting three consecutive treys to give Keiser life, still down 57-44 with 8:37 left.
- Two minutes later, Vincent Miszkiewicz and Nichelson hit back-to-back threes as the Seahawks cut the lead to 12 with just over five minutes to play.
- The lead would just be too much to overcome as St. Thomas would hold on to the 73-58 win.
