It was late-night drama again for No. 2 Keiser women's soccer, who delivered late to punch their ticket to the NAIA National Championship in Pensacola, Florida. The two sides were even at the half before the Cougars took the lead late in the contest. In the 88th minute, a loose ball fell to
Alicia Rey, who delivered a rocket into the back of the net to tie the score and send the contest into overtime. In their second overtime at the Final Site, it was
Maria Vilhena who sent a missile from outside the box into the back of the net to send Keiser to the NAIA National Championship.
It will be a familiar foe in the NAIA National Championship as the Seahawks will take on the SCAD Savannah Bees on Monday, December 9, at 2:00 p.m. CST.
- Keiser had a chance early in the game as Ramona Kannady crossed a ball into the box to Maria Vilhena whose header went off the crossbar in the 12th minute
- Olivia Pousette was through on net in the 33rd minute, but her shot on the near post would be saved by Natalie Allison
- In the 35th minute, a corner from Delfina Zolesio would bounce off a Keiser defender and into the net for a goal for the Cougards
- Two minutes later, the Cougars would be called for a push in the back in their own box. Alicia Rey would step forward and sink the penalty kick to even the score at 1-1
- Vilhena would get another chance before the half, but her chance was blocked as the score remained knotted at 1-1 going into the break
- The Seahawks nearly scored in the 59th minute when a free kick from Steingerður Snorradóttir was directed to the back post and just missed Delfina Lombardi before being saved at the line by Allison
- In the 66th minute, the Seahawks would be called for a handball in the box. Zolesio would step forward for the Cougars and give them a lead with a grounded shot to the left side of the goal
- Keiser would push forward, making subs to bring on extra forwards.
- It would pay off in the 88th minute after a failed clearance fell to Rey who sent a half-volley whizzing by the keeper and into the net to tie the game and send it into overtime
- Just over five minutes into extra time, a weak clearance by the Cougars fell to Maria Vilhena who ripped a shot from outside the box past the keeper and into the net
- Keiser moves to 18-1-1 with the win
- The Seahawks are now 2-0 in Pensacola in overtime and 13-6 all-time in OT
- KU improves to 33-13-2 all-time in the NAIA postseason and 3-2-2 in the NAIA Semifinal
- The Seahawks have now scored at least three goals in each NAIA postseason game
- Vilhena continues to score for KU, registering a goal in each NAIA postseason contest
- Rey's late-game heroics push her season total to nine goals on the year, her second multi-goal game
