Coming off an overtime win on Tuesday, No. 2 Keiser women's soccer showed their composure on Thursday with a dominant 4-0 result against the Tennessee Southern Firehawks.
Ramona Kannady got the scoring started in the third minute of the game and the Seahawks piled it on from there.
Iðunn Rán Gunnarsdóttir would get her first career goal in the quarterfinal before
Maria Vilhena would score her third goal in this NAIA postseason to make it 3-0. Tuesday's hero,
Delfina Lombardi, put the icing on the cake in the 79th minute to close out the scoring. The Firehawks came into the game averaging over seven goals per game, but the Seahawks were able to hold them without a shot on target for the entirety of the contest.
The Seahawks will now advance to the NAIA Semifinals, where they will face No. 8 Columbia on Saturday, December 7, at 4:00 p.m. CST.
- Keiser got off to a quick start with Georgia Little finding Ramona Kannady in the box who struck home the first goal in the third minute
- In the eighth minute, the Seahawks drew a corner with Steingerður Snorradóttir finding Iðunn Rán Gunnarsdóttir who headed it into the net
- The Keiser attack would continue as in the 22nd minute Lauren Riley crossed it into the box where Maria Vilhena struck the ball with force and scored the third for KU
- On the other side of the pitch, Little came in clutch with a slide tackle in the box to dispossess the UTS attacker and keep the clean sheet in tact
- Little would have another fantastic slide just before the halftime whistle blew as Keiser went to the break up 3-0
- It was a quiet second half for both sides before Kannady nearly scored again with a chance in the 69th minute that was blocked
- In the 73rd, Kannady had another chance where she had the keeper beat, but her shot would ping off the crossbar
- Six minutes later, Kannady would find Delfina Lombardi in the box who guided a left-footed shot into the corner of the net to make it 4-0
- The Seahawks would hold on to the clean sheet as time expired and their run continued
- Keiser is now 17-1-1 on the year with the win
- Thursday was the second time this season that the two teams faced off with KU winning both meetings
- The Seahawks improve to 32-13-2 all-time in the NAIA postseason and 8-2-0 in the NAIA Quarterfinal
- With four goals today, Keiser has now tallied at least three goals in each NAIA postseason game
- Leading the way is Vilhena who has scored in all NAIA postseason games
- Kannady's game-winner is the 13th of her career and the first this season
- Gunnarsdóttir scored her first career goal in the game and becomes the 15th goal scorer this season for KU
- Lombardi now has five goals on the year with three of them coming in postseason play
- Maude Rouanet did not get credited with a save but did put in work for her 10th shutout of the season
- UTS came in as the highest-scoring team in the NAIA at 7.19 goals per game and was shut out for the first time this season
