Keiser men's basketball fought through a tough opponent in No. 19 Baker on Friday night in West Palm Beach, Fla. Both teams would rely on their defense, but it was the Wildcats who edged out the Seahawks in the final minutes of the game, winning 63-58. Vincent Miszkiewicz led nearly every category for the Seahawks, finishing with 22 points, 17 rebounds, six blocks, and three assists. His 29th career double-double came with 18:38 left in the second half on a layup just after recording his 10th rebound. Keiser held the Wildcat offense that was averaging 93 points per game to just 63 points on Friday night.

The Seahawks will head into an early-season Sun Conference game when they host St. Thomas on Saturday, November 16. Tip-off from the Student Life Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 2:00 PM.

With just under 40 seconds to play and down three, Keiser got the ball on a Quamar Gresham steal. However, the Wildcats would remain disciplined on defense, forcing a turnover and hitting both free throws from the line to put the game just out of reach.

 
 
How it Happened


First Half
Baker 28, Keiser 26
  • Vincent Miszkiewicz opened up the game with a three pointer on the first possession of the game
  • Baker took control of the game over the next five minutes as Quentin Harvey scored 11 points on the 16-4 Wildcats run
  • Keiser cut into the lead with an 11-6 run capped by Jonathan Paul's putback layup with 8:24 remaining
  • Both teams locked it down for the remainder of the half with Jackson Slater sinking the last basket of the half to cut the lead to two going into the break

Second Half
Baker 63, Keiser 58
  • Tyreon Payne began the second half with the first free throws of the game, making both to tie the game at 28
  • The free throws started a 15-7 run for KU which was capped by a Cameron Stitt slam with 12:39 on the clock
  • Baker quickly countered with seven straight points before Calvin Sirmans connected from deep to extend the lead back out to four, 46-42
  • The Wildcats continued to battle as Quentin Harvey put up his 20th point on a tip-in to give Baker the lead with just under eight minutes to play
  • It was a back-and-forth affair over the next two minutes before Miszkiewicz went to the line and cut the Wildcats' lead to one, 53-52
  • Once again, Baker went on a run, scoring six straight, but this time it was Sirmans who got to the line on two straight possessions to make it a three-point game with 2:36 showing
  • The next four possessions in the game resulted in steals with both sides recording a pair as the clock dipped below the one-minute mark
  • With 22 seconds to play, the Wildcats forced another turnover to take possession and go to the line to ice the game
  • They would do just enough to stay out of danger with a 3-of-4 mark from the line to seal the game
