The No. 1-ranked Keiser Seahawks handed the Southeastern Fire its first loss of the season with a 17-10 win at Victory Field on Saturday night.
 
The Seahawks, which had two of its last three games changed or cancelled due to hurricanes, improved to 5-0 (2-0 SUN) on the year with the team's fourth road victory of the season.
 
Keiser out-gained the Fire, 352-308, including a 208-102 edge in passing. Quarterback Shea Spencer ended the night with 208 yards on 20-of-30 passing with one touchdown. On the ground, Andrew Burnette produced 94 yards on 21 carries, including the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth.
 
With the win, Keiser improved to 5-2 all-time versus the Fire, including a 3-1 mark in Lakeland, Florida. The win also extends the Seahawks nation's longest winning streak to 16 games while Keiser improves to 15-0 all-time in Sun Conference action.


 
 


First Quarter
Keiser 0, Southeastern 0
  • The first 15 minutes proved to be a battle of defenses as each team possessed the ball twice but put no points on the board
  • On the Seahawks first possession, Keiser punter Ben Derby booted a a career-high 69-yard punt (third longest in program history)
  • The Seahawks closed out the first with nine plays taking the ball down to the SEU 32-yard line

Second Quarter
Keiser 10, Southeastern 10
  • The Seahawks put up the first points of the game with a 24-yard field goal by Nico Cavanillas (12:24)
  • The field capped off a 16-play, 63-yard drive that began at the end of the first quarter
  • The Fire took a 7-3 lead following a 31-yard touchdown pass from Henry Austad to Alex Reyes with 9:09 left in the half
  • Keiser answered with a six-play, 55-yard drive that was capped off by a five-yard touchdown pass from Shea Spencer to Maurico Porcha 
  • The made extra point gave Keiser a 10-7 lead with 6:24 on the clock
  • SEU tied the game with 38 seconds left in the half with a 21-yard field goal by Joel McGrath

Third Quarter
Keiser 10, Southeastern 10
  • The Fire had a golden opportunity to take the lead at the start of the second half, blocking a punt by Derby and recovering the ball at the Keiser 22-yard line (12:55)
  • However a holding penalty and a false start pushed SEU back to the KU 37
  • Three plays later McGrath missed a 45-yard field goal attempt as the score remained tied with 11:38 left in the third
  • The Seahawks looked to retake the lead on the ensuing drive however back-to-back penalties caused the drive to stall at the SEU 32-yard line (7:26)
  • McGrath attempted to give SEU the lead again, this time with a 40-yard attempt however the kick sailed wide left, keeping the score even at 10-all (1:10)

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 17, Southeastern 10
  • The Seahawks took the lead following a four-yard rushing touchdown by Andrew Burnette 
  • The rushing TD and made extra point gave Keiser a seven-point lead with 12:39 left in the game
  • A fumble by SEU's Curtis Kimmons was recovered by Hunter Hargraves at the Southeastern 49 with 11:00 on the game clock
  • The Seahawks were unable to take advantage of the SEU miscue, punting the ball away at the 9:18 mark
  • The Fire put together an 11-play drive that went 55 yards down to the Keiser 30-yard line but a failed fourth-down conversion (fourth-and-eight) put the ball back into Keiser's hands with 3:35 left in the contest
  • Keiser chewed up 2:57 before punting the ball back to the Fire with 38 seconds on the game clock
  • The Fire which started from their own 15-yard line were only able to muster six yards on offense as Keiser regained possession with two second remaining

  • The coin toss was won by Keiser, the Seahawks deferred to the second half

  • Shea Spencer finished the night completing 20-of-30 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown
  • It marked the seventh game in Spencer's career with 200-or-more yards passing
  • Ben Derby kicked a 69-yard punt on his first punt of the night. The punt was the third-longest in school history
  • The five-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter for Maurico Porcha was his second of the season
  • Linebacker Tristan Vann tallied a career-high 10 tackles to lead the Seahawks
  • Wide receiver Refeno Vangates grabbed a career-best seven passes
  • With the win, Keiser improves to 5-2 all-time versus Southeastern (3-1 in Lakeland)
  • It marked the third straight win for the Seahawks over the Fire
  • Keiser extends its nation's best winning streak to 16 games
  • The Seahawks improve to 15-0 all-time in Sun Conference action and 35-3 in conference play (SUN & MSC)
  • Saturday's win marked the 60th win in Keiser football history
  • Keiser improves to 5-0 as the No. 1 team in the nation
  • With the win, Keiser improves to 25-2 all-time during the month of October
