Women's Basketball Tops the Bobcats, 70-56

The Keiser women's basketball team used a 13-2 run to start the second half en route to a 70-56 win over (rv) St. Thomas on Wednesday night. 

The win marked the team's ninth home victory of the season and fifth straight for the Seahawks. Keiser was led by Elliana Schaefer, who recorded 17 points on the night. Also scoring in double-figures were Kyra Long (16), Mimmi Hahne (15), and Elise Ellison (10). Long led the team with 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her Keiser career.

First Quarter
St. Thomas 14, Keiser 13
  • The first quarter saw three ties in the first 6:30.
  • The Bobcats used a 6-1 run to push their lead to 14-9 with 1:16 on the game clock.
  •  Elise Ellison cut the lead to three with a layup with 54 second left in the first.
  •  After an STU turnover, Mimmi Hahne made it a one-point game with layup (14-13).                            

Second Quarter

St. Thomas 28, Keiser 27
  • The Bobcats pushed their lead to five, 20-15, following a made layup by Camilla Flefil (7:17).
  • Keiser went on an 8-0 run to take a 23-20 lead with 3:46 remaining in the half.
  • STU responded with a 5-0 run to regain the lead, 25-23 (1:23).
  • Kyra Long pulled Keiser within one, 28-27, with her sixth point of the night (0:28).

Third Quarter

Keiser 54, St. Thomas 39
  • The Seahawks took a one-point lead following a made jumper by Ellison, 29-28 (9:17).
  • Elliana Schaefer extended Keiser's lead to 31-28 with a made layup (8:36). 
  • Long extended Keiser run to start to half to 13-2 with a made layup, giving the Seahawks a 40-30 lead with 6:30 on the game clock.
  • Out of a time out, STU went on an 8-3 run to cut the Keiser lead to 43-38 with 5:00 left in the quarter.
  • The Seahawks pushed their lead back to 10 following a made free throw by Ellison, 49-39 (1:45).
  • Keiser went on a 5-0 run to close out the quarter, 54-39.

Fourth Quarter

Keiser 70, St. Thomas 56 
  • Schaefer extended Keiser's lead to 18 with a made 3-pointer with 9:47 left in the game (57-39).
  • Hahne made it a 20-point advantage with a made layup, 59-39 (8:39).
  • STU used an 8-0 run to pull within 12, 59-47 (6:03). 
  • Keiser used a 6-1 run over the span of 3:16 second to take a 65-48 lead.

  • With the win, Keiser improves to 12-8 on the season (4-2 SUN).
  • With the win, the Seahawks move to 11-26 all-time versus the Bobcats.
  • With the win, Keiser improves to 8-9 all-time versus STU at the Student Life Center.
