Men's Basketball Falls Short on the Road to CCGA, 85-74

The Keiser men's basketball team suffered an 85-74 loss at Coastal Georgia on Wednesday night. The Mariners used a 13-2 run midway through the second half to put the Seahawks in a deficit they could not overcome.

Calvin Sirmans notched a team-high 24 points while dishing out four assists and recording three steals. Also reaching double figures in scoring were Vincent Miszkiewicz (16), Albert Dennis (12), and Tylar Cerez (11). For the 16th time this season, Miszkiewicz registered a double-double grabbing a game-high 14 boards to go along with his 16 points. The Seahawks will look to turn it around on Saturday in Lake Wales, Fla. when they face the Warner Royals. Tipoff from the Turner Athletic Center is set for 4:00 p.m.

How it Happened


First Half
Coastal Georgia 39, Keiser 37
  • After trailing 4-2 early in the first half, Keiser went on a 7-0 run capped off with a made jumper by Vincent Miszkiewicz with 16:21 left in the half (9-4).
  • Coastal Georgia tied the game 9-9, following a made jumper by Layton Veon with 15:06 on the game clock.
  • There were three more ties over the next three minutes as the scoreboard read 16-16, with 12:05 left.
  • Calvin Sirmans hit a jumper with 10:19 on the game clock to push a 4-0 run for the Seahawks (20-16).
  • CCGA responded with a 5-1 run to tie the game at 21-21 with 8:09 on the game clock.
  • With 6:13 left in the half, Tylar Cerez hit a jumper to give Keiser a six-point lead, 30-26.
  • Sirmans gave Keiser a 34-33 lead after a pair of made free throws with 3:16 on the scoreboard.
  • The Mariners outscored the Seahawks 6-3 in the final moments of the first half to take a two-point lead into halftime.

Second Half
Coastal Georgia 85, Keiser 74
  • CCGA outscored the Seahawks, 6-1, to start the second half and take a 45-38 lead with 18:03 left in the game.
  • After a layup by Brandon Framer cut the deficit to five, 45-40, with 17:47 on the game clock, the Mariners went on a 13-2 run to push their lead to 16 with 11:54 on the game clock.
  • The Seahawks chipped away at the lead, making it a 10-point game, 74-64, following a made jumper by Miszkiewicz (3:28).
  • After a pair of free throws by Miszkiewicz, Cerez hit a 3-pointer to cut the CCGA lead to six, 75-69, with 2:01 remaining.
  • A steal by Sirmans led to a Keiser score (1:07) to make it a 77-72 game.
  • That would be the closest that the Seahawks would get as the Mariners outscored Keiser, 8-2 to end the game.
