Keiser men's basketball was unable to contain the high-scoring offense of the Gyrenes on Saturday night in West Palm Beach, Fla. falling 95-80 at home. Calvin Sirmans led the Seahawks with 28 points in the game, adding a game-high six assists. Always good for a double-double, Vincent Miszkiewicz grabbed 15 points and 15 rebounds to secure double-double number 15 of the season.


Keiser will have a short break before traveling to their furthest conference opponent in Coastal Georgia on Wednesday, January 17. Tipoff from Brunswick, Ga. is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Ahead 56-52 with 13:15 left in the second, Ave Maria scored 11 of the next 15 over the next 90 seconds to open a gap in the lead that they would not give up.
 
 
How it Happened


First Half
Keiser 40, Ave Maria 35
  • Keiser opened the game on an 11-0 run capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Calvin Sirmans and Brandon Farmer.
  • Ave Maria brought the game within five, scoring nine of the next 12.
  • The Seahawks nearly mirrored the run as Kylon King and Tyler Poindexter combined for 11 of the next 16 to take a 25-14 lead with 10:10 remaining in the first.
  • With 6:03 left in the first, Nelson Mbongo checked in for his first minutes on KU. In his first two minutes, he grabbed a rebound, recorded a steal, threw an alley-oop to Vincent Miszkiewicz, and scored his first basket as a member of the Seahawks.
  • The Gyrenes ended the half on a 15-2 run to cut the lead down to five at the break.

Second Half
Ave Maria 72, Keiser 72
  • After Keiser scored the first three points of the half, Ave Maria countered with 10 unanswered to take their first lead of the game with 17:24 left in the second.
  • The two sides traded baskets before the Gyrenes put together six in a row to cushion the lead, 56-50.
  • Over the next four minutes, the high-scoring offense of AMU would take shape, running up an 18-8 offensive run to bring their lead to 74-58 with 10:23 left.
  • Keiser would cut the lead down to 13 before three more for the Gyrenes brought their lead back to 16 with 6:11 remaining.
  • Ave Maria would keep the Seahawks at bay for the remainder of the game, taking the 95-80 win.

  • The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for KU and drops the home record to 7-2.
  • After scoring 29 on Wednesday against Southeastern, Sirmans tallied 28 points on the night to lead all scorers.
