The Keiser volleyball team fell at home to Ave Maria this evening. The Seahawks battled through five tough sets with the Gyrenes, but came up just short of a victory.

The Seahawks got off to a good start in the first set with a 5-2 run to open the match, but AMU tied the match a few points later and took a lead with a 4-0 run to go up 15-13. The Seahawks knotted the set up at 17 apiece, but the Gyrenes pulled ahead and ended the set on a 3-0 run. The second set was dominated by the home team, with KU beginning the frame with a 7-0 run that featured several powerful Keiser kills to the delight of the crowd in the Student Life Center. The Seahawk offense kept rolling and Keiser held an 18-6 run that forced an AMU timeout. Three consecutive points put the 'Hawks up 21-6 and helped them shake off a late 5-1 AMU run to secure the set. Keiser was in control of the third set, and held a 15-7 lead midway through the frame. AMU got back into the game with a 4-0 run, but Keiser took a timeout to regroup, and later closed out the set thanks to a 6-2 run. Set four began with a 4-0 Gyrene scoring run answered by three points from KU, and AMU later stretched their lead to 14-11 before a KU timeout. The Seahawks put up a 5-1 run to take the lead, but Ave Maria fought back and the set was tied 18-18. Keiser had a chance to take the set, but the Gyrenes heated up down the stretch with a 7-2 rally that sent the match to a decisive fifth set. Keiser opened the final frame with a 3-0 scoring run that was immediately answered with a 4-0 AMU scoring run. The Gyrenes put a 5-0 scoring run on the board to force a Keiser timeout midway through the set. The Seahawks put three consecutive points on the board after the break, but the comeback fell short and the match came to an end on back-to-back AMU points.
KU will be on the road this Saturday to face Coastal Georgia. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
