Apisah Claims Back-to-Back Singles Titles while Perez Flores and Kononovich Take Doubles Title at ITA Regionals

Box Score Keiser women's tennis claimed both ITA Regional Championships on Sunday in Boca Raton. For the first time since the 2018-19 seasons, Violet Apisah claimed back-to-back ITA Regional singles championships.

The first part of the day was dedicated to doubles, as Violet Apisah was looking to defend half of her title and teamed with Vanja Vidanovic against Yeva Kononovich and Isabella Perez Flores. The first set went the way of the top-seeded Apisah and Vidanovic, who won 6-3. Kononovich and Perez Flores would fight back in the second, winning 6-2 to force a super tiebreak decider. In the end, Kononovich and Perez Flores would outlast their teammates, winning 10-6 and claiming the doubles title. After a quiet hour for rest and lunch, the women moved to stadium court, where defending champion Apisah would face the dominant newcomer, Katie Visnevscaia. Apisah was locked in through the first set and took a 6-1 win with momentum on her side. Early in the second set, her body turned against her, but the first person to come to her aid would be Visnevscaia who would not only provide ice and water to her opponent, but let her teammate turned opponent, take all the time she needed before continuing. After some time had passed, the two got back on the court, and Apisah proved to be the stronger player on the day, taking the second set and the match.

Coach's Corner
Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "I'm really proud of all the ladies. They all did a great job this week and really competed at a high level, executing along the way despite some really hard and hot conditions. Congrats to Isa and Yeva for a great run and taking out their teammates in a great doubles final. And further congrats to Violet for making it back-to-back and winning the title again this year. She played some really focused tennis all week and continued in the final. I'm also very proud of our girls that made the finals as well, and I can't wait to get these ladies up to Rome for the ITA Cup and watch them compete against the nation's best in a few weeks."
