The No. 1 Keiser women's tennis team took both titles at the ITA Regional Tournament, which ran Thursday through Sunday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
Lena Couto won the singles championship, and the doubles team of
Ceylin Ipek and
Emily Kim won the doubles title. All three will represent the Seahawks at the ITA Cup, Oct. 14-18, in Rome, Ga.
Keiser entered seven players in singles and three doubles teams.
Singles
Couto did not drop a set in five matches. She opened with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Maeva Samran Roguet and followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Defne Ursane in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, she beat teammate
Hana Djedovic 6-3, 6-2. She defeated Southeastern's Irene Parigi 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals and topped Southeastern's Aurora Compganucci 6-1, 6-3 in the final.
Ofer Kivity also reached the semifinals. She beat Cardona-Carballosa 6-0, 6-4 in the round of 16 and Southeastern's Maria Bylina in the quarterfinals, before falling to Compganucci 6-3, 6-1.
Fredrikke Trollsaas reached the quarterfinals after a three-set win over Iuna Feillon in the round of 16, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Djedovic got there by rallying past Giselle Adekunle 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. Trollsaas lost to Compganucci in the quarterfinals, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Kim opened with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Vivien Faludi before losing to Parigi 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16. Ipek fell to Compganucci 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) in a match-tiebreak in the round of 32.
Jessica Popescu lost to Bylina 6-2, 6-0 in the round of 32.
Doubles
Ipek and Kim went 4-0 and lost only seven games across their four matches. They won 8-0 in the round of 16, 8-2 in the quarterfinals and 8-1 over Compganucci and Parigi in the semifinals. In the final, they beat Southeastern's Esma-Nur Dodooglu and Bylina 6-2, 6-2.
Couto and Trollsaas reached the semifinals with wins of 8-0 and 8-2 before losing to Dodooglu and Bylina 8-5. Kivity and Djedovic lost their opening match to Compganucci and Parigi 8-5.
