No. 5 Keiser closed out their non-conference schedule in dominant fashion, downing No. 9 Tennessee Southern by a final score of 4-0 in Foley, Alabama, on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks used four different goal scorers in the game with three first-time scorers this season in
Emilia Nilsson,
Olivia Pousette, and
Mifumi Sasanuma. It was the second time that the Seahawks shut out the Firehawks in as many years.
- Keiser took control early, earning two corners in the first five minutes.
- On the second of the two, Emily Payne directed a shot towards goal, but a Firehawks defender cleared it off the line to keep the game scoreless.
- Two minutes later, Tennessee Southern had an open net opportunity, but Hana Masuko headed the ball away to safety.
- In the 29th minute, the Seahawks broke through with Nynka Rucker finding Viki Adam at the back post who touched the ball into the net to give Keiser the lead.
- The Seahawks would strike again in the 34th minute as Mifumi Sasanuma fired a ball from outside the box that went just beyond the goalkeeper's hand to make it 2-0.
- Tennessee Southern looked to their bench for a goalie change following the goal as Petra Brncova replaced Layken Stockstill.
- The change didn't seem to bother KU as Emilia Nilsson made her way into the box and welcomed the new goalie with her first-career goal in the 38th minute.
- Keiser would take the 3-0 advantage into the break with the momentum still behind them.
- KU's defense started the second half under fire with Zara Board making a diving save in the 58th minute.
- Tennessee Southern would continue their attack, but Board would make two more saves to deny the Firehawks.
- In the 74th minute, Adam would go for her second from a free kick, but it would ricochet off the post and away.
- Five minutes later, Lauren Riley would send Ramona Kannady through who crossed the ball to Olivia Pousette for an easy tap-in and her first goal as a Seahawk.
- The last chance for the Firehawks came in the 82nd minute when a blocked shot left an opportunity for Miran Sikai, but her shot would scrape the crossbar and go out of play.
- Keiser would hold on for the final minutes, earning their second shutout of the season.
- Keiser ends its non-conference schedule with a 2-1-1 record.
- With the win, the Seahawks move to 24-26-7 against top-10 opponents and 26-19-4 in ranked, neutral-site matches.
- The newcomers made their mark on the game as Nilsson, Pousette, and Sasanuma all scored their first goals of the season.
- Adam has already doubled her total from last season with her second goal of the year today.
- Georgia Little continues to pressure defenses with her crosses, adding another assist to her team-leading count.
- Kannady, Riley, and Marthe Taugbøl each collected their first assists of the season while Rucker tallied her second of the year.
- Board once again played all 90 minutes in net, earning the shutout win with three saves.
- Keiser outshot their opponents 18-11 on the day, 9-4 on goal.
