The Keiser women's basketball team used a 12-2 run late in the fourth quarter to hand the Xavier (La.) Gold Nuggets their first loss of the season, 76-70.

Five Seahawks reached double-figures in scoring as the Keiser improved to 5-2 at home this season.

A 12-2 scoring run by Keiser beginning with 7:06 on the clock gave KU the cushion it needed to close out the game. 
 
 
How it Happened


First Quarter
Keiser 22, XULA 17
  • A technical foul issued before the game gave Julia Fitzwater the first point of the game on a free throw. 
  • Elise Ellison made a layup with 8:12 on the board to push Keiser's lead to five.
  • Mimmi Hahne put the Seahawks up by six with a made jumper. (5:32)
  • Zariah Jenkins gave Keiser an eight point lead with a made layup. (2:09)
  • XULA scored to cut Keiser's lead down to four with 24 seconds remaining, and Fitzwater scored the final point of the quarter with a made free throw. 

Second Quarter
Keiser 38, XULA 36
  • A Gold Nugget layup brought Keiser's lead back down to four with 8:19 on the board. 
  • XULA's Sierra Headquist connected on a jumper to cut the Seahawk lead to three. (5:55)
  • A Headquist three point shot got XULA within two with 3:55 on the board. 
  • After Elise Elison hit a free throw, the Gold Nuggets got a layup to go with 2:35 left in the half that put them only one point behind the 'Hawks. 
  • A Mimmi Hahne three pointer and a Fitzwater jumper stretched the KU lead back out, and XULA scored the final bucket of the half with 11 seconds on the clock. 

Third Quarter
Keiser 55, XULA 50
  • The two squads traded buckets to open the half, and the Gold Nuggets tied the game with 7:19 on the board. 
  • Two made free throws gave XULA their first lead since the first quarter. 
  • Elliana Schaefer tied the game back up with a made layup. (4:54)
  • After a Kyra Long layup, the Seahawks made a defensive stop and retook the lead with two made free throws from Mimi Hahne. 
  • The Gold Nuggets tied the game once again with a layup on the ensuing possession, but free throws from Taylor Jones and Kyra Long put the Seahawks back in front.

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 76, XULA 70
  • The Gold Nuggets pulled within one, 55-54, with 8:37 left in the game.
  • After Keiser regained the lead, a three-point play by Headquist tied the game at 57-57 (7:22).
  • The Seahawks used a 12-2 run to extend their lead to 69-59 with 3:41 left in the game.

  • With the win, Keiser moves to 7-6 on the season.
  • Five Seahawks reached double-figures in scoring.
  • Elliana Schaefer led all Seahawks with 16 points.
  • She also led the team with four assists.
