Women's Basketball Falls to No. 15 Cumberlands (Ky) on Alumnae Day

The Keiser women's basketball team suffered its first home loss of the season, falling to the No. 15-ranked Cumberlands (Ky) Patriots, 94-83, on Sunday afternoon. 

The Seahawks had five players in double-figure led by guard Halle Traylor, who scored 19. Also reaching double-figures were Taylor Jones (18), Elise Ellison (13), Elliana Schaefer (11), and Kyra Long (10). The Seahawks could not overcome 19 turnovers, resulting in 25 points for the Patriots.

How it Happened


First Quarter
Cumberlands (Ky) 27, Keiser 24
  • Halle Traylor capped off a 6-2 run by the Seahawks with a 3-pointer at the 8:47 mark.
  • The Patriots used a 4-0 run to tie the game at 6-6 with 8:11 on the game clock.
  • The game saw three more ties before Cumberlands (Ky) took a 20-14 lead with 3:27 left in the first.
  • KU used a 6-1 run to pull within one, 21-20, following a layup by Elise Ellison (1:40).
  • UC outscored Keiser 6-3 to close out the first, 27-24.

Second Quarter
Cumberlands (Ky) 48, Keiser 41
  • The Patriots used a 12-2 run to start the second and push their lead to 13, 39-26 (5:11).
  • Keiser battled back to cut the lead to single digits as Traylor hit the final bucket of the half (a 3-pointer), 48-41.

Third Quarter
Cumberlands (Ky) 73. Keiser 63
  • UC scored back-to-back baskets to regain a double-digit lead, 52-41, with 9:07 on the game clock.
  • KU chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to three, 62-59, following a layup by Elliana Schaefer (3:07).
  • An 11-4 run by the Patriots put the Seahawks in a 10-point hole, heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

Fourth Quarter
Cumberlands (Ky) 93, Keiser 84
  • A three-point play by Taylor Jones cut the Cumberlands (Ky) lead to just six (81-75) with 5:13 left in the game.
  • UC pushed its lead to 11, 90-79, with 1:56 on the game clock.
  • The Patriots held onto their lead to hand Keiser its first home loss of the season.

  • With the loss, Keiser moves to 6-5 on the season.
  • Sunday was the first meeting all-time between the two teams.
  • Five Seahawks reached double-figures, led by Halle Traylor's 19 points.
