No. 18 Women's Soccer Advances to SUN Semifinals with 2-0 Win over Ave Maria

No. 18 Keiser women's soccer downed Ave Maria on Saturday afternoon 2-0 at Arrigo-Veceillo Field, West Palm Beach, Fla. Ramona Kannady tallied the first goal in the sixth minute, followed by Oline Sundgot's insurance goal in the 42nd minute.

The Seahawks will now move on to the Sun Conference Semifinal where they will play No. 6 SCAD-Savannah on the road in Hardeeville, S.C on Tuesday November 7. 
 

How it Happened
  • Keiser got on the front foot early, drawing a corner in the sixth minute. 
  • On the ensuing possession, Marthe Taugbøl fired a cross into the box that was played on by Mifumi Sasanuma and finished by Ramona Kannady to give Keiser the 1-0 lead. 
  • Two minutes later, Kannady is back on the attack, but her shot would clink off the post.
  • With just over 10 minutes left, Emilia Nilsson nearly had a chance, but Emma Schweitzer pounced on the loose ball.
  • Following a turnover in the midfield in the 42nd minute, Taugbøl launched another long ball forward headed on by Angelina Coelho with Oline Sundgot tapping a pass around the keeper and extending the KU lead to 2-0.
  • Coming into the second half, Maude Rouanet took over in goal for Keiser.
  • In the 69th minute, she kept the clean sheet alive with a save against Lauren Brooks.
  • Lauren Riley nearly scored in the 85th minute, but her shot would go over the keeper and bounce off the crossbar.
  • Five minutes later the clock would run out on Ave Maria with Keiser punching their ticket to the semifinal.

Game Notes
  • Keiser improves to 12-5-2 overall with the win.
  • The Seahawks are now 22-6-3 all-time in the Sun Conference Tournament and 2-0-0 all-time in the quarterfinal.
  • Kannady's goal was the sixth of the year for the forward which places her tied for second on the team.
  • Also tied with her is Sundgot who notched her sixth of the season.
  • Taugbøl's two assists on the afternoon move her to six on the year which is good for second on the team.
  • Both Sasanuma and Coelho each added to their assist totals on the year with two and four respectively.
  • Zara Board and Maude Roaunet shared the shutout with a combined five saves in the game.
