The No. 3-ranked Keiser football team scored 38 unanswered points to roll past the No. 13-ranked St. Thomas Bobcats in the second round of the NAIA Football Championship Series on Saturday. In the first meeting between the two Sun Conference opponents in postseason play, the Seahawks overcame a slow start to blow out the team from Miami Gardens and advance to the NAIA Quarterfinals for the fourth time in program history.
Setting the school record for rushing yards in a game, the Seahawks posted 383 yards on the ground versus the Bobcats. Keiser was led by
Jaden Meizinger, who posted a career-high 245 yards rushing on 27 carries and two touchdowns. For his performance, Meizinger was named the Second Round Outstanding Offensive Player of the Game. First-year running back
Andrew Burnette also broke the century mark, rushing for 136 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Quarterback
Bryce Veasley completed 8-of-17 passes of 162 yards and two touchdowns. Both of his touchdown throws were to tight end
D'Andre Golden, who had three catches for 91 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Defensively, linebacker
Tivon Sutton led all Seahawks with nine total tackles (six solo) with 3.0 tackles for loss and one sack. He also forced and recovered a fumble in the game as he was named the Second Round Outstanding Defensive Player of the Game. In all, the Keiser defense produced 13.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks while recovering one fumble and picking off two passes.
St. Thomas 21, Keiser 7
- The Bobcats struck early with a two-yard touchdown run by Rontavious Farmer with 13:16 left in the first.
- The Seahawks used a seven-play, 57-yard drive capped off with a four-yard touchdown run by Jaden Meizinger to tie the game at 7-7 with 9:47 on the game clock.
- On the ensuing drive, it look STU just one play (a 50-yard run by Farmer) to regain the lead, 14-7.
- Following an interception by Donnell Bennett III of a Bryce Veasley pass, the Bobcats took a 14-point lead with Farmer's third rushing touchdown of the quarter (8:54).
- It proved to be the last time STU got on the scoreboard as Keiser proceeded to score 38 unanswered points.
Keiser 24, St. Thomas 21
- Nico Cavanillas converted a 25-yard field goal - his eighth of the season - to cut into the STU lead, 21-10 with 12:49 left in the half.
- An interception by Louis Lubin III on a pass by STU's Keely Watson, gave Keiser the ball back with 11:58 on the game clock.
- With the ball on the STU 14-yard line, Keiser used three plays to make it a four-point game, 21-17, following a two-yard rushing touchdown by Veasley (10:41).
- On Keiser's next drive, Veasley connected with D'Andre Golden on a crossing pattern for 56-yards and a score, giving the Seahawks their first lead of the game with 5:52 remaining in the half.
- STU looked to respond driving down to the Keiser 10-yard line but a strip sack by linebacker Tivon Sutton gave Keiser the ball back with 1:25 left in the second.
Keiser 38, St. Thomas 21
- Out of the break, the Seahawks extended their lead with a 51-yard rushing touchdown by Meizinger with 14:02 left in the third.
- The score was the First-Team All-Sun Conference selection's second of the game.
- Again, STU looked to respond but Wendol Philord picked off a Watson pass, halting the Bobcats drive.
- Later in the quarter, Andrew Burnette posted a 70-yard touchdown run to push the Seahawks lead to 38-21 with 2:31 remaining in the third.
Keiser 45, St .Thomas 21
- The Seahawks added the final score of the afternoon with an eight-yard pass from Veasley to Golden, 45-21.
- The final drive for the Bobcats ended with a punt after consecutive sacks by the Keiser defensive line.
- On 2nd-and-12 on the Keiser 40-yard line, Jertavis Black sacked Watson for a 12-yard loss.
- The ensuing play both Black and Maddox Aprile got to Watson, dropping the STU quarterback for an eight-yard loss.

- With the win, Keiser improved to 9-2 on the year.
- The Seahawks remain perfect versus NAIA teams this season (9-0).
- The Seahawks also improve to 7-4 all-time in the NAIA Football Championship Series.
- With the victory, Keiser improves to 6-0 all-time versus the Bobcats.
- The Seahawks will now host an NAIA Quarterfinal contest on Saturday, December 2 - the second time in program history Keiser will host an NAIA Quarterfinal contest.
- The win moves the Seahawks to 52-15 all-time.
- The win also improves Keiser to 26-4 all-time in at the Keiser Multi-Purpose Field.
- Keiser is now 16-7 all-time versus ranked teams.
- The 45 points scored were the second most Keiser has scored versus a ranked opponent all-time.
- Keiser now improves to 12-3 all-time during the month of November.
- The Seahawks are a perfect 38-0 when scoring 30-or-more points in a game.
- The Seahawks are also a perfect 24-0 all-time when reaching the 40-point plateau.
The Seahawks will host the NAIA Quarterfinals on Saturday, December 2. Game time (versus a yet-to-be-determined opponent) is set for 1:00 PM.
